1 inch of Venus memory foam on top of 3" of sensus?
Hi everyone. I'd like your input (especially haysdb, hope that is somewhat close) about your thoughts of having 1" of Venus memory foam on top of 3" sensus memory foam followed by 3 3" layers of latex (36, 40,44 ILD). Right now we have everything but the Venus memory foam and like it very much. We do have quiltflex on top, but that has gotten worn. What do you all think it would feel like to replace that with the Venus memory foam? How do you all think the Venus and Sensus would work together, or would it not? I ask because an online merchant that begins with o and ends with stock has 1" Venus memory foam king for 180 bucks. That's not cheap by any means, but it's significantly less than other places. For information purposes that same merchant has 3" of Sensus King for $200, again a very good deal. Thanks. Ben This message was modified Jan 25, 2009 by Benjammin

Isn't Venus quite similar to Sensus? What are you trying to achieve, feel-wise? Kait |

To me, you already have too much memory foam on top of the medium latex. So I would think adding another 1" of memory foam would not be good. If you feel you need more memorry foam, at least take off the worn layer you mentioned and replace it with the new memory foam, don't add to it. But it's an individual thing so maybe more soft foam will work for you; all you can do is try it if you think it will work. Just my 2 centavos. By the way, how long have you had the sensus memory foam and how much softer is it now than when you bought it? I have found that with every memory foam I've tried - even Tempurpedic - that it gets MUCH softer after 3-7 days of use, and no longer gives me the support I need. This is one reason why I recommend only using 1 to 1 and 1/2" of memory foam, no more (for most people; maybe 2" at the outside. I never knew there was an 8lb memory foam (Venus) until I just now went to o___.com to check it out. Have you tried it before? How is it? I have always felt that memory foam could be good if it were firmer. Maybe this is the stuff for me. But it makes no sense to me how they sell a Twin for the same price as a King. If they sold the King for half the price of a twin then I could afford it! I hate to spend $180 on foam I may not like... This message was modified Jan 28, 2009 by jimsocal

Re: 1 inch of Venus memory foam on top of 3" of sensus?
Thanks so much for both your answers. My wife and I are not on the lighter side, so I think the 3" of memory foam works well for us. I especially appreciated the question about the softness of the Sensus over time. I've wondered about that as well. I think we've had it for either five or six years. It may make more sense to simply replace that layer. I am intrigued by how the Venus foam will feel, but I wonder if 1" will make enough of a difference and how it would work with the Sensus underneath. I have to say that when we added the third latex layer 44 ILD that made a big difference in giving the bed a more substantial and solid feel. I had read or heard about "comfort life" for memory foam, but I wasn't sure if that was a marketing gimmick or not. Mark of memoryfoam.com (back in the good old days when they were great) would talk about memory foam losing its comfort level over time. If a memory foam was expected to last ten years, he said after 5 it would have lost 50% of its comfort level. Does anyone have personal experience of Venus memory foam and how it compares to Sensus comfortwise? I know haysdb (spelling?) made some interesting comparisons awhile ago, but those were testing samples, not actually sleeping on the Venus memory foam. |
