Hi. I'm new here and I really need some help. I am 120lbs and have had several back injuries. Finding a comfortable bed has been a lifelong challenge. The only comfortable bed I have ever had was made custom to my body weight years ago. I had it for 20 years and have been searching for a comfortable bed ever since. We went through a pillowtop, a plush, both of which we were sleeping in valleys within a year. All are way too hard for me. So we finally just went and bought a $300 flat mattress at Ikea with the intention of buying a topper for it that we could exchange when it breaks down rather than having to buy a whole new bed every few years. We do have a 3 inch blended topper something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Studio-3-Inch-Mattress-Queen/dp/B002NSLLAU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301332339&sr=8-1-spell -- We bought this for our last bed which was plush and it worked okay but we still felt the breakdown of the mattress through it. We still have it, but now it's too hard. I'm a side sleeper. I also have a 1" 14 ILD talalay topper, and in a perfect world, need another 1" 14 and another 1" 19 ILD. Is there anyplace besides sleepslikeabear.com that sells 1" talalay in similar increments? I've talked to a couple of places that sell a 2" 4.75 lbs which they call 16-18, which maybe is sort of in the middle of the 14 and the 19 that I need, but it's a Dunlop process which I understand is more firm than the talalay. I'm really confused as to what to do. In summary I have: -- Firm mattress from Ikea -- 3" Visco which I don't know the ILD, but it's sort of medium hard -- 1" 14 ILD I'm looking to come as close as possible to another 1" 14 and another 1" 19 to put on top of the Visco, under the 1"14. That seems it would be the most comfortable combination. Any suggestions or recommendations would be highly appreciated. Caat This message was modified Mar 28, 2011 by bigcaat

While I bought my 14 ILD from SLAB without any problems, I think I read that someone called Sleepez and they could special order a 14ILD made by Latex International for you but they wouldn't warrant it (and maybe, not take returns?) so that may be an alternative. You could also try this guy: http://www.customsleepdesign.com/index.php/Custom-Latex-Sleep-Products-CT/Mattresses-Pillows-Toppers-Organic-Covers/mattress-toppers.html He used to work for Latex International and could probably get it....or even custom design a mattress for you.....or maybe tell you what you can do with your existing toppers and some of his to get you where you want to be. His web site is clunky and they don't always answer the phone but it may be worth a call and maybe less expensive than SLAB.
Good luck. Personally, I'd take the Visco foam out of the equation and start with a solid base before adding softer latex but I'm no expert. This message was modified Mar 29, 2011 by Sall

I agree about trying Custom Sleep designs. If you email them, I am sure they will reply - they did for me. I may actually be stopping in to see them regarding a purchase of a latex mattress for myself tomorrow. I would definitely give them a shot!

http://www.rockymountainmattress.com/latextopper-p-45.html From doing a search for 1" toppers seems to have 1" very soft Talalay Latex topers at a good price and you can even buy a cover for them. I bought mine at Brylane Homes but it seems they are no longer selling 1" latex toppers and are now only selling 1.5" latex toppers. |
Thanks for the input everyone. This gives me choices since I'm so unhappy with sleeplikeabear.com. |
Caat, You know what they say about curiosity.......... Why are you so down on sleeplikeabear.com? Philip |
