^^^ Very important point.
I looked up the Denver Durango mattress specs, and if I found the right thing, that mattress has 5" of lightweight poly foam (most of it 1.8 lb density) above the springs. That is a lot of foam, and if that stuff is sagging and has deep body impressions, no topper will help. Might be time for mattress surgery (if the springs themselves are good and if your foundation is good), or time for a new mattress.

- I have worked with coils ranging from 12.75 gauge to 15.5 gauge and the lower the gauge number the firmer (and most times stronger)
- One question to ask is whether the steel being used is tempered or not (tempered is stronger)
- One example shows the Simmons beds with 1000 coil density (850 coils) is 15.5 gauge steel... high carbon steel; the higher carbon content is supposed to be stronger and therefore does not require a thicker gauge to perform as expected. You may want to read some customer responses to the Simmons World Class to determine if that works well
- The flip side is the Simmons Black beds use...

From what you have posted, the core is individual coils wrapped in foam. That construction probably relies on the foundation below for support and flatness. And individual coils can tend to push back at you individually... sort of like each coil beating you like a roll of quarters as you move about. This is all covered by lots of soft foam, which is proably not offering much comfort or isolation. All in all, not a system worth building on, imo.
>>2) Since you seem to understand this stuff, do the specs above assert that the core is basically good (seperate from the foam; or does the foam interfer too much for it matter?)?
Core construction is not good, imo. I'm envisioning a foam...

Agreed, that is a lot of foam... adding more to it would not help.

So these are my questions, and I hope you (or others who know) might be willing to help more:
1) Besides what I stated above, is there a way to evaluate how solid and flat your core is?
2) Since you seem to understand this stuff, do the specs above assert that the core is basically good (seperate from the foam; or does the foam interfer too...

I just came from vacation and slept on many different beds (including a cot in a dorm room), all of which gave me a decent night sleep! ACK!
Anyway, my instinct is to just buy a thicker topper; the same product but 5"...

Needless to say, it's time for a new one. Not to mention I have PLMD (Periodic Limb Movement Disorder), which is where my legs will rock while I'm asleep and usually when I'm dreaming. My wife is constantly complaining that she's often woken by the feeling of her head rocking back and forth because my legs are moving. I'm also on CPAP, but it doesn't seem to help that much in that regard.
I've done a LOT of research on Air Beds and I've narrowed it down to two brands. Innomax Medallion and the Habitat Ascend. Though I'm heavily leaning...

I'm in the market to buy my first Queen size foam/memory foam mattress. I'm a little unsure of what I'm doing to be honest. I have a small budget of $250 to spend so I know I'm not getting anywhere near top of the line but I'm currently on a Full size spring mattress and have been for years. Ready to upgrade, at least a little.
I've run across this IKEA foam mattress (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70272323/#/30272320) called the Malfors. It's an almost 5 inch foam mattress. I tried it at the store and it was comfy but going on Overstock and a few other sites I keep finding 6 or 8 inch foam/memory foam mattresses for around the same price namely from Signature Sleep, SwissLux and a few others. I'm weary to try buy a mattress I've never tried but the idea of a 6 or...
