I take it you have a Firm Hastens mattress and box spring?  They are beyond firm.  Using a Firm Hastens box won't be as stable as a platform base, of course, but I would definitely try it under a latex set up, it may work beautifully and it might end up ideal:  just a very little amount of give only where needed.

 

Where do you have the talalay topper in your current set up, above or below the horsehair topper?   If you have a Medium and not a Firm Hastens, I would absolutely lose both the toppers and try sleeping directly on the Hastens mattress before buying a new one.  I am no fan of their toppers.

There are five layers in the Flobed I use. The first is a set of German springs that is eight inches thick. The second is the V-Zone which is medium everywhere except the shoulders and head which is soft. The next layer is four inches of soft latex. There is the two inch waffle layer and then the horsehair. The mattress covering is wool and I put wool fleece on top of that. This is a very soft bed yet it keeps my back fairly well aligned for side sleeping. I cannot tolerate the bed being any firmer because the pressure on my skin keeps me rolling around at night. I am also looking at the PlushBed as an option.  Seems like between PlushBed, FloBed and Astrabeds, they each have plusses and minuses.  One question I have is your statement that PlushBed does not have the wool cover.  The Botanical Bliss DOES have a Joma Wool layer, which is IMHO designed more for moisture wicking than anything.  From what I can deduce, it is not thick enough to actually interfere with the softness of the bed.  If by now you have already purchased a bed (in light of very little input) and have been able to demonstrate this one way or another, it would be good to know. 

I don't remember seeing any of the primary brands actually having a wool cover, but usually some strain of cotton top, with some type of wool below it.  Don't know if this is to avoid discomfort of lying directly on...

Again, thanks for the further input.  One might form the opinion that the wool layer, since it flattens, is something to be avoided, but from what I understand, it performs a "wicking" function which allows the sleeper to remain cooler and dryer. 

I went and looked at what I believe is the bed you have (Luxury Performance Organic).  I had been focusing on pure Latex,  but the one you have seems to be a good hybrid mix of various layers.  I was REALLY surprised to see the horsehair.  We had a friend who had a PURE horsehair mattress, and it was like sleeping on a concrete slab.  Since this is only a layer, my assumption is that the stiffness of the horsehair is modified by the various layers of latex.  What function does the horsehair provide that either a high ILD layer of latex or a layer of...

I currently have a hastens mattress with the horsehair topper. I've had it for about 5 years and it's compressed and starting to feel too firm now. I did sleep on a feather topper in a hotel and quite liked it. I'm debating between a feather topper or a carpe diem topper. From what I've read carpe diem topper should feel somewhere in between the hastens and the feather topper. Unfortunately, there isn't a carpei diem retailer nearby for me to try. Any suggestions?...
