You would probably only find this at a custom mattress maker. It can be used to make a VERY firm mattress, on top of the same springs that can feel very accommodating. I experienced this first hand at a Verlo mattress store....

I have been meaning to write this up for a few weeks and just keep putting it off. I paid a visit to a Verlo Mattress Factory a few weeks ago, and came away impressed. If you are looking for a conventional mattress, and just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one, check to see if you have one of these in your area. I believe they are concentrated mainly in the Northeast, but I'm not positive. The mattress I would have bought from them would have cost just over $1000 for a Cal King set. It was a two-sided mattress very much like what I have slept on for the last 13 years.
They had a large number of mattresses in their showroom. 20 at least iirc. All of their mattresses are two-sided. They make some pillow top mattresses but they are pillow top on both...

First thought is maybe your "box springs" are sagging. Did you buy a set or just a new mattress?
If you find it's definitely the mattress itself, check your area for a custom mattress shop. It's possible they could unstitch the ticking (top quilted layer) and add an additional fiber pad on top of the innerspring unit. This will have the effect of making the "support core" more firm by making the springs less independent. it may also be the "comfort layers" that are too soft. The major caveat that is you'd have to keep the overall height the same so the ticking could be re-sewn and the mattress would look the same as before.
They will have the proper machine to re-attach the ticking. Check, for example, to see if you have a Verlo Mattress Factory in your area. I have no idea if they would actually do this for...

The 2" ILD 32 latex topper arrived today. My first thought when comparing it to the ILD 38 layers I have is that it was not going to be enough softer to notice, but it is. The feel of the mattress is still "firm" but I experience more of a floating feeling now when I lay on my side. The next step down from the 32 is a 24, as I have never come across an ILD 28 latex topper. My concern, as before, is that would just be too soft, but maybe it wouldn't be as long as the core was properly supportive. In my case along with the slightly more conforming 2" topper is the return of the sinking hips feeling. As I soften up the top, I need to firm up the support layers, so I have asked Dewey if he will sell me an ILD 44...

No experience. Their website content is pretty much the typical fluff . . apparently 5.3lb density, but no imported or domestic sourcing information (unless I overlooked it). There were no returns when entering the astrabeds.com URL or 888-880-0202 phone number in the BBB search. WHOIS....

Thanks. It wouldn't make it firmer than the doorskin, would it? May I ask what the exact name of it is?

He probably doesn't recommend it because it will last too long. Plus, he's a salesman and doesn't know what he's talking about.

Dear Mr. Williams,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction and discomfort with my Verlo Mattress. I purchased a Verlo Mattress approximately two years ago from the Round Lake Verlo Store in Round Lake, Illinois. During the two years I have owned my Verlo Mattress, I have expressed my concerns and complaints at the local store, regional franchise and the National customer service. Each complaint has been received, however, there has yet to be any improvement in my Verlo Mattress, nor has there been any follow-up to my complaints.

Interesting Verlo comment. I hadn't seen it before. I'm glad we didn't get a mattress there. The people were nicer than the other places but we weren't that impressed.
Sometimes I think we could have just gotten a mattress locally and not fooled around with the internet retail world - and then I remember what I didn't like about the local mattress choices....
