Re: Need Help Identifying this Mattress - TC2334

Just wanted to clarify that by "kid's bed,"  I meant what you usually see in a twin size.  Englander, Buis in Michigan, Imperial, Original Mattress Factory:  Those are jast some that still make 2-sided.   Search here for "two sided,"   "2 sided," and variants of that term.    Lots of people are looking for them.    Actually, there's starting to be such a consumer backlash about problems with single sided mattresses that all the mattress stores actually seem to be aware of that. (Maybe they saw their sales plunge lately?)    And some that I've been to are starting to offer at least one or two 2-sided mattresses again.

For kid's beds, there are two spring systems I've seen that are very common:

If it's firm to very very firm, then a Bonnell spring.  Leggett & Platt make them and so do independent mattress makers.  It is the oldest, adapted from buggy springs.

If it's softer, then a Luraflex innerspring by Leggett & Platt.  Persaonlly, I'd rather a have a Bonnell than a Luraflex.

How much foam padding on top and how tight they stretch the cover affect the feel.   Also what's rock solid in a twin size or full size may sway a little and feel much, much softer at queen & king size.

I posted about Imperial Bedding of Huntington WV.    Original Mattress Factory, too.    Both of those make good firm 2-sided traditional innerspring mattresses.  Look for that link I posted to a store in MD, I...

OK, here's a few more that are either in St. Petersburg or reasonably close.

http://www.originalmattress.com/locations Regional manufacturer. I'm including this even though the closest is Kimsimmee because they have great value.

http://www.restonicflorida.com/products.htm National manufacturer. I'm including this one because they build all the Restonic in FL and they are one of the "better" national brands in some areas (they are different in different areas). If you come across Restonic anywhere this will give you a way to check what's in it.

http://www.pittsburghmattressfactory.com/ Local manufacturer in Ellenton

http://www.panachemattress.com/about.html They are a specialty manufacturer usually available through retail outlets. They have a latex/poly and memory foam line. Good for testing out what construction feels good but are often priced more than I would pay. They would probably give you the names of retail outlets that carry them near you

Here are a few options in or near Jacksonville besides the chain stores you probably already know about. Some of these look pretty good and a couple I talked with when I was looking for my own mattress.

Phoenix

http://www.roomstogo.com/jacksonville-furniture-stores/ Retailer. Mainly "S" brands but carries CMG (Carolina mattress guild) and has the embody series for "testing".

http://www.bodyrestmattress.com/page/consumers Manufacturer. Has latex and memory foam combination options

http://www.colemanmattressco.com/ Manufacturer. Has latex and memory foam options

http://www.demattressinc.com/307169.html Manufacturer. 9" latex is about $1500 (queen) and will custom manufacture. Makes mattresses for private label as well. Seemed like good people when I talked with them.

http://www.floridabeddingcorp.com/products.asp Manufacturer. Looks like lower end and didn't see any memory foam or latex.

http://foxmattress.com/ Manufacturer. Has latex and memory foam and will custom build. In Daytona Beach...

Here are a few more that may be well worth looking at. I didn't have that many close to Columbus (mostly Toledo and Cincinatti) but OMF (1st one) would be well worth going to as they have very good value.

http://www.originalmattress.com/locations Regional manufacturer with wide range including Latex and good value

http://www.clarebedding.com/dealers.asp Regional manufacturer that makes several brands including their own called Platinum Dreams. Very nice and worth checking to see if there is an outlet near you.

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com Manufacturer. Have Latex on poly mattresses that may be worth testing out

http://www.furniturerow.com/DenverMattressCo/ Manufacturer. Have 2 "mostly latex" mattresses that may be worth checking out (Aspen and Snowmass)

http://www.bedroomsfirst.com/whereweare.html Retailer. No all latex but may have some "part latex" for field testing. Probably wouldn't spend too much time here

Latex Toppers - Phoenix

I originally put this in the Plushbeds thread but I thought it was probably more appropriate that it had it's own. I'll add more for Dunlop and other thicknesses as I have the chance or find out more from some of the companies I didn't include because they don't have prices listed on their website.

If anyone has any other good sources for latex toppers that offer good prices or choices ... or even special time limited pricing as they come up ... they would certainly be welcomed

Phoenix

Here's a few talalay latex topper choices for reference. These are all 3" and quoted in queen size.

I can't answer directly to the "re-using latex" question (I never asked him that and would suggest you ask him directly) although there is certainly a high margin in latex but I may be able to help a bit otherwise.

Ecosleep has several mattresses in it's line which all have latex in the top. Some have latex over acellaflex foam (a higher quality polyfoam) and 3 of the models are all latex. These are the Cassidy and Sundance (both with a 5" core and 2x2" on top with the difference being the cover) and the natural (which has a 6" core with 2" on top).

Goldes carries the natural and can probably get the other 2. They quoted me a price of $1439 in queen for all 3 but that might have been because I was referred to them by the factory as I don't...

I'm glad you plan to try this for a few nights before you do or change anything else. The lower back pain could come from an adjustment from "bad" to "good" but if this is the case it would be temporary. If it increases, then further adjustment is needed. If it goes away after a couple of nights "adjustment", then we know we are very close.

So lets take a look at where we are.

First regarding pressure relief without regard to alignment.

2.5" of Aerus memory foam over probably 2" of soft poly foam (firm mattresses usually have at least this much softer poly for cushioning over the spring) = Good pressure relief.

2" of 21 ILD latex over 2" soft poly foam = Sore hips and shoulders

3" of 21 ILD latex over 2" soft poly foam =...

Wow ... is that ever bizarre ... especially considering that you are down to knowing close to what you want and were looking for a quote. That's usually when people become very friendly and try to do their best for you. Oh well, it doesn't matter in the end if either of them can give you a good quote since there are so many online options who can ... it's just nice sometimes if you can get the same benefits locally. I think it's safe to rule them out. Funny too ... when I was calling a lot of manufacturers looking for prices on a rough configuration, they quoted me $1399 for 6 + 2 although I didn't specify any ILD's or other details.
