Re: Anyone tried the Dream Form Green Tea Memory Foam Topper from Overstock.com? - sandman

Sleepy, I have not tried the Greeen Tea memory foam. The Serta also look like a popular one at Overstock (2" min. though).
I have bought 3 pieces of memory foam from overstock. A 2" piece that was the right size. A 1" piece of Sensus that was actually slightly big. A 1" piece of mem-cool that is about the right size (maybe 1" small?).
I still suggest getting 1" to start vs. 2". I think you will find the 2" of 4lb. Aerus is pretty soft, especially if you put over the convoluted piece. I have 2.5" of the 5lb. (which should be a bit firmer and more supportive), and I am concluding that is probably too soft for me as a top layer.
I think there is a tradeoff between breathability and firmness/supportiveness.
You can buy the queen and cut down...

An update to my last post . . . .
Things took a turn for the worse. My next night's sleep, I awoke middle of the night coughing and having problems breathing. Awaking, I recognized a strong, sweet odour in the room. Left, showered, but the odour persisted, including in my nose and a strong rubbery taste in my mouth. Headed to the doc because it was so disturbing. Prescribed 'puffer' to help with ibreathing, a suggestion that I may have developed an allergy to something in the mattress, and a further suggestion to 'get rid of the mattress' (if it was needed).
The supplier (decent folks, very happy with their attention to this) took the set back and are working to resolve. The manufacturer (not very happy with them) were simply adamant that it was an allergy and that their product isn't to blame (should...

It was a painful decision, I have a feeling I'm going to require another 1" topper, but I opted for the 1" Dream Form memory foam topper. I decided to go with the Dream Form over Aerus because there wasn't a single complaint about odor in the review section...only references to a fresh minty fragrance that dissipates quickly. My latex topper has a slight vanilla fragrance, so put the two together and I suppose I'll have a refreshing vanilla mint aromatherapy experience.
Being a side sleeper, I suspect I'll need more cushioning than 1" of memory foam can provide, so I plan to add in a 1" 19 ILD talatech topper if my suspicions turn out to be correct. That would give me a configuration that looks like this: 1" (compressed) 28 ILD talatech, 1" 19 ILD talatech, 1" 3 lb. memory foam. I imagine I'll lose...

The pros and cons of memory foam ... beyond the hype. - Phoenix

This is a "first draft" and of course is based on what I have learned and/or come to believe from my own research and personal experience. It is not meant to be any kind of "final statement" on memory foam and is subject to any "corrections" necessary along the way as new information, opinions, or materials come to light from either my own research and experience or that of others.
Note added later ... there is a second draft in reply #8 which is a little less "technical" and perhaps a little easier to read. This one includes a little more technical information for those that are so inlined.
Visco elastic foam or "memory foam" is a very unusual material and perhaps partly because it has such unusual qualities compared...
Re: Too-firm mattress causing back pain - exchange for plush mattress or get toppers? - adamjs

Once again Sandman, thanks for your generous help. I tried the 3" MF topper last night underneath the mattress pad AND underneath a cheap convoluted foam egg crate. The heat was barely noticeable in this configuration, and it was relatively comfortable! Despite the intermediate layers, the MF still seemed to conform to my body quite well. I'm not sure how supportive it was; I still woke with back pain but that could be residual from previous nights. I'd say using the MF topper boosted my mattress comfort from a 3 on a 1-10 scale to a 5 or 6. Incidentally I'd already been using the mattress pad and egg crate, so the improvement was definitely due to the MF topper. In sum, it made the mattress tolerable, but of course I'd like to make it truly comfortable!
The topper is the Therapedic Grand 3" Luxury...

I have always been a great sleeper, but since middle age hormones have kicked in, my sleep quality has been terrible. I wake up with swollen eyes and a tired body. I now have mattress is 8+ year old mattress that is frim, and I am thinking of getting a new one. But where to start?
Here are some of the issues:
Allergies
Side Sleeper with neck pain
Hot flashes [which may rule out memory foam]
Sleep with a snorer
Want a somewhat green mattress, or at least one that is mite resistant.
Any ideas or opinions are most welcome and really appreciated.

Need Help Identifying this Mattress - mybedsucks
Nov 8, 2010 8:04 AM
I need help finding out where this mattress came from (see pictures below). This was my old bed that I threw away several months ago, and I haven't been able to sleep as well as I used to ever since.
It's a Twin XL bed, and if you look at the base, it has a flower pattern on a green background, which is the same pattern used for the mattress on top (you just can't see it because my blue bed sheets are covering it).
I bought this bed used from a college student about 3 years ago, so I don't know where she got it from, and I have no way to contact her now to find out. The mattress did have a faded label on it that might have identified the brand or manufacturer, but unfortunately I never paid any attention to it before,...
Re: SleepEZ - Are swapped layers used? - moon1234

Well I contacted SleepEZ and spoke with Shawn, Jeremy and Shawn's father who started the business. Shawn's father was very knowledgeable (I mean he really knows his stuff). He said that the flame test is looking more for the amount of heat supression vs not burning/no flames. He said the wool chars when it burns, and it does burn, but the char creates a very strong insulation later that helps to deflect heat even better. He continued on stating that when a flame is applied to wool from the top the wool does not burn like wood or cotton, rather it smoulders and creates a char layer that acts as the true heat insulator during a real fire.
Since I did not know if this was true or not I did some research and found this to be accurate. While the strobel test shows wool burning,...
