I'm sorry but this is untrue once you get into a manufacturer's signature spring. The Posturepedic coil is made by Sealy in Sealy plants that employ Sealy workers. The Individually Pocketed Coil is made by Simmons in Simmons plants that employ Simmons workers. The same is true with Stearns and Foster.

Whether or not you get cheap PU foam is dependant on whether you pay for cheap PU foam.

Hi Alexander, it seems you have worked in the mattress industry. Is that correct?
You seem to know a lot about mattresses! It's good to have someone who knows things about manufacturing here.

I admit to exaggerating in my statement about coils. I should have said "MOST are made with springs from one manufacturer and cheap pu foam". So thanks for keeping me honest!

But you must admit it is hard to know...

I wouldn't drive that far for any mattress unless it was a special custom built job that I just knew was going to be the answer to my prayers...

I'd find out what kind of springs it has and how much polyurehtane foam it has on top of them, and then buy something similar. What gauge are the springs? how many coils per Queen, how much foam on top? I'm sure most makers have similar mattresses. They're all made with springs from one manufacturer and cheap pu foam, so the main difference is the type of springs as per above. Bonnell? Luriflex? Leggett and Platt.

Get a firm and add your own quality latex or memory foam topper....

Like many of you, I've come here looking to get the most out of the $1000 - $2000 I'm about to spend on a bed for me and my wife. We currently have a innerspring plush pillow top, and it's not working out for us - both of us are getting back pain while sleeping and then after we wake up. We decided that we want a firmer bed, and I've been looking at Latex beds. I went to a local store, and tried out the three Sealy Spring Free beds they have, and two of them were way too soft while the Weybridge was perfect. It was $1899 after $400 rebate, so it's definately pricey, especially considering I went to the Original Mattress Factory and found an innerspring I liked for $670. Nevertheless, I like the idea of a...
Dare I say that most mattress sales people are less than good at their job? New buyers: what to expect in your mattress quest - jimsocal

This is just a rant. Feel free not to read it, but those of you who are just starting to search for a mattress may find it educational. You may as well go into this knowing what to expect.

Okay, even though I KNEW in advance that mattress sales people tend to be jerks and idiots, my latest excursions into mattress stores, and calling mattress stores and companies on the phone, has led me to blow off this steam...

First of all, let me acknowledge that of course there ARE SOME GREAT mattress sales people and manufacturers out there. Unfortunately, though, they seem to be few and far between. If you are a great mattress person who knows his product and sells a quality product and has his customers' welfare at heart, I applaud you and wish you the best! I wish I could have found one in my location. If anyone...

As someone who owns several omf mattresses, I'm not sure that I would do that. Check around your area and make sure that there isn't a small manufacturer near by. If you do go with them, go with the orthopedic extra firm. it has some pu foam but not a lot.  I think the ultra firm is too hard for most people. You might as well just sleep on a board. I say the orthopedic, because it is the better springs....

Webbiscuit - Final configuration?  Don't have one yet.

My wife loves what I described above.  I hate it.  Since she's visiting family, I'm messing with the bed.  I have a 1/2" layer of Lux foam (ILD 50) with a 2.5" layer of HD-36 eggcrate (ILD-35 for the solid foam) on top of the original Lux and egg crate, replacing the 3" 5.5 lb memory foam.  But after two nights with this configuration I don't have a verdict; I loved the original for the first week.  The idea with the egg crate was, the two layers add up to 3", so I can cut the memory foam and this stuff in half, and have side by side layers for that part of the bed, then put the 4.5 lb memory foam on top so there's hopefully not that sharp of a transition between the two sides.  My side, her side.  Plus the...

Original Mattress Factory worth the 400 mile round trip? - LHPJO

I'm replacing our ten year old queen mattress set. I'm trying to decide if taking a trip to Orlando from South Florida makes sense. I never knew buying a new mattress could be so complicated.
OMF seems to get good reviews from owners. The prices I see online don't seem bad at all. I called to find what delivery would be to Broward County and it's about $425 unless they have another delivery in the area. Then it would be shared. More deliveries, less shipping charges. He said it would take a long time to find a shared delivery.
Also, are prices set or do you have to haggle just like other mattress stores?...

Jeff,
I actually am from New Hampshire and made 3 trips to the Rye store before going to Salem to place my order. (It was less money in Salem!) As far as spring mattresses, I would say they have a similar display in Salem as they have in Rye. The only difference is "lower overhead" and the ability to talk to and deal with the company owner in Salem, MA. It is a custom mattress factory and they will build just about any type mattress you want. The people are very friendly and easy to deal with. I know I should probably ask for another "comfort exchange" and they would oblige, but I have already paid 2 shipping charges on original delivery and first exchange. Plus, they only build an 8 inch matress and at my weight I am reading that I...
OMF Regency Mattress - drago40
Oct 25, 2009 2:59 PM
I've recently went to the original mattress factory and placed a hold on a regency mattress for pickup in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or thoughts on this mattress. Also it has 800 coils but a thin gauge wire making thus making it not the firmest mattress. I'm 6'7, 230lbs...do you think it'll be able to hold up well under my weight? Not that I have any back problems but do you think it would be wiser for me to get a firmer mattress? I probably didn't spend enough time testing out each mattress so now I'm starting to second guess myself.
