Re: Latex over coil mattress question - budgy

Not sure the cost on the Shifman but I would look at a bed called the Sprout Firmus. Its made in Edmonton out of all natural materials, it is 2 sided like the Shifman and hand tufted, but with pocket coils. Zoned 800 count, not sure the guage, but I reckon relatively thick, its a pretty beefy mattress. That with a seperate latex topper would probably do what you want too. If your goal is to get something really good quality but less expensive than the Green Sleep this would be a good option. ...

THe foundation will definitely make a difference, the problem is whether it makes it better or worse for you. The flexible foundations help get rid of some of the "pushback" latex is known for. The mattress will give more support on plain slats. More support will raise your hips slightly relative to the rest of your body and this will affect your spinal alignment. You can try purchasing the mattress without the foundation and just put the mattress on the floor. You won't get the ventilation benefits of a slat foundation, but the bed should have the same support and firmness. If you like the mattress on the floor, it will be good with a plain slat foundation. If you don't like it, then you know to get the GreenSleep foundation. WIth all that said, I will bet you prefer the mattress with the GreenSleep foundation....

We tried a Savvy Rest mattress over the weekend and really liked it. The suggestion for a soft/med/firm was made for me since I am a side sleeper primarily and med/firm/firm for my husband who sleeps on his back. I personally like the Talalay on top and my husband liked the Dunlop medium which was recommended although he thought it could be firmer. We've also been shopping around on the internet and have focused on two companies, highly recommended here, SleepEZ and Flobeds. I spoke to both Shawn at Sleep Ez and Dewey at Flobeds. The same configuration was suggested by Shawn at Sleep EZ as was given to us by Savvy Rest and we could mix and match either Talalay or Dunlop. Flobeds however only uses Talalay so their configuration would be a Med/Firm for me and Firm on XF for my husband...

I'm interested in buying a king size latex mattress. I don't know where to start as I've been looking at so much information on the internet and it gets confusing and from site to site I find what seems to be conflicting information. I'm 5 feet and weigh 115 pounds and my husband is 6 feet and weighs 240 pounds. I'd like to know what firmness of latex to buy for us and what type of latex to buy dunlap or talalay.
This thread may help you get started.
He may like 28-36-44, or similar, but you may want something more like 24-32-36. That's 3x3" layers. There's also 4x3" and 2" on 6" combinations, etc. I would do some reading first, and then ask a Latex mattress shop expert for their opinion. You may arrive at build you can...

I did find a web site that sells a Green Sleep all latex bed. They do show ILD ratings :
Density: Available in soft (ILD equals 22-25), medium (ILD equals 32-35) and firm core (ILD equals 38-42).
Here is the link :
I emailed that info to Green Sleep and got this reply :
Interesting! I guess he found a way to convert the density to the ILD! The only way we were told in Malaysia to have the firmness is the density! So then it would be the 22-25 for the soft rubber.

Hi there, i am in the same boat as you. I have two little guys and they are both on 100% natural rubber crib mattresses (i found them both secondhand in perfect shape for 100 bucks each!).. anyways, i am in love with these mattresses and i also want to go latex but i have found a more affordable option that is also very green and affordable. as far as DIY, i have gone every which way and for a decent mattress the arizona mattress company's all natural bed in the non-zoned 100% dunlop core plus 2 inch topper for $795 is a great price for latex (your kid does NOT need a topper yet). since i need to buy two mattresses and bunkbeds my budget is a little tighter, i found an awesome futon company that makes double wool hand made futons, family business, twin size double wool (the...

Hip Pressure Points on a Serta Latex - sleepwalker
Nov 12, 2012 12:16 PM
Hi all,
In 2009 we bought a king Vera Wang by Serta "Beyond Glamour" pillowtop latex bed (which is either no longer in production [can't find any info on the internet] or the name has changed in today's market). The tag on the bed says 53% Latex, 27% polyurethane foam, 28% poly fiber batting. I'm totally clueless about what kind of latex this is or which layer it occupies in the bed and the store we bought from no longer exists.
We have the bed on plywood (two pieces side-by-side) which is on top of a king box spring. Anyway, about a year after our purchase ($3,000 approx) I started having hip pressure point issues. I'm a side sleeper and can only last about an hour before having to turn over to the other side until that hip starts hurting and I flip back and...
Is Green Sleep Dolcezza and custom dowel foundation really worth the money? - Jakeeagle

My wife and I are replacing a 15 year old King size coil mattress. We want something non-toxic so we started looking at GreenSleep beds. I weigh 140, my wife weighs 125. I have some lower back and hips problems. We both sleep on our sides. We never would have considered spending $7000 for a bed until we tried a GreenSleep Dolcezza. It was quite remarkable. We have also tried a Savvy Rest...we didn't think it compared.
We're just wondering if people who have more experience with high quality latex beds can share any insights with us. For example, is it really worth spending $2,000 of the GreenSleep custom foundation? The bed we tried was on the foundation and we don't know how different it would feel if it were just on slats. If you have any experience with this we'd love to hear from you.
