Re: How to soften my Shifman? - amysue30
Oct 14, 2010 1:16 PM
Well, I like the feel of the fiberbed topper as it makes the bed softer.  Unfortunately, I am still waking up with a frozen shoulder and pain.  I am trying the Costco gel topper with the fiberbed and while it is comfortable, it has not helped my shoulder.  At this point, I may try the Kohls topper, but after that I am at a loss.  I have so much on the bed now that it would surprise me that the hardness of the bed is still causing the problem. Still, don't know.  After trying a few more things I may have to actually go to a doctor and see if I have a shoulder issue per se that is beyond the bed.

Re: Need some help finding latex dealers in Chicago land! - Phoenix
Jan 3, 2011 10:39 AM
I posted a smaller list in a previous thread but two of the outlets included there have gone out of business. Must be tough "mattress times" in Chicago. Here is a slightly larger list for Illinois but I will leave you to determine which of these may be close enough or have retail outlets that are close enough. They are not in any kind of "priority" order but there some very good values here.

Hi Phoenix,

I am sorry I forgot to mention that all prices I quoted were for Queen size.

I talked to Bob (owner) at Custom Sleep Design and he quoted me $2299 for Queen set with foundation or $2179 for Queen mattress only.  His mattress consists of 6” base core, 3” middle layer and 2” topper layer and it is all Talalay Latex.

I visited the Mattress Factory and I spoke to Ron (owner) and he quoted me $2299 for their Queen set with foundation.  But his mattress consists of 5” HD foam base with only 6” Talalay Latex on top.  And you don’t get to choose the firmness level for the Latex because it only comes in 36 ILD.  The only choice you get is to choose the firmness level of HD core.

The price I quoted for Pure Latex Bliss...

Re: Considering heavenly bed and shifman mattresses - Betsy

I had a heavenly bed which compressed very quickly -- by the third year it with pretty impossible. For the money, I feel it is not well made and not terribly comfortable. I have seen many similar reviews of this bed. Although they say it is the same bed as in the Westin Hotel -- it does not feel that way to me.

Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme vs. Beautyrest Renton Hill - udpt82ny
Feb 13, 2011 10:56 AM
So, we have researched and slept in a few different beds and are now considering completely diffferent mattresses.  We have considered Shifman, Dux, Heavenly and Kluft mattresses.  (Eliminated Dux and Heavenly after spending nights on them.  Others, just too much conflicting info available.)  We changed direction and are now seriously considering the TP Cloud Supreme and the Beautyrest World Class Renton Hill.  The Beautyrest has coils at the base, then latex and memory foam topped with compressed foam. It seems that all innerspring mattresses get mixed reviews, but the Tempurpedic ones are generally always positive. From what we learned at the store, the Cloud models do not retain heat like the Rhapsody and some of the older and firmer models.  I definitely do not want a mattress that makes me hotter.

I would appreciate any advice about these (or other) mattresses.  This process is overwhelming!

Considering heavenly bed and shifman mattresses - udpt82ny
Feb 10, 2011 11:55 AM
Hi,

I am new to this forum but hoping I can get some advice.  Researching mattresses is overwhelming!

We currently have a queen Dormia mattress, which was replaced approximately 4 years ago because the sides sag.  The current one has developed the same problem, so we will probably make it a guest bed and buy something new.  My husband has been considering a few types and has narrowed it down to the heavenly bed or a shifman mattress.  I would appreciate any advice on the pros/cons of these two brands.

Also, I now found out that the shifman mattresses are different at Stickley and Bloomingdales.  Does anyone know the difference?  Am I better at one store than another or should I just consider which mattress I like the best.

Finally, we are not certain whether we will go king or queen.  My...

Looking for some info on Shifman Renoir? - ezra76
Apr 26, 2011 12:29 PM
Hello. I'm a furniture mover and was given a very good condition mattress and box spring the other day. Box spring was still in a protective bag zipped up.

Anyway, I'd never heard of this brand, "Shifman" and it is a "Master's Collection, Renoir" . I've been moving furniture since 1994 and this is the heaviest mattress I've ever moved and easily double the weight of next heaviest.

I looked up a little info and seems this a pretty high end mattress. I was wondering if anyone could give me a roundabout idea what they went for retail price new? It is a queen size.

been testing beds for a month now.. - mark

I currently bought the beautyrest black but wake up with pains in my back. I have had spinal surgery before and will need another one. I have gone to sleepys here in ny and tried out all there beds. None of them seem to help and then went to bloomingdales. I tried the kluft, shifmans, and aireloom but didn't like them either. I am thinking of trying the englander, royal pedic, and hastens. The concern I have with englander is what i have read on the forums that they are not durable and start sagging quickly? Can anyone confirm this? Also, are there other brands a little cheaper that people would recommend. I am looking for a latex bed. I really liked the OMI beds but they are expensive and I haven't reach much reviews on people who bought them.

thanks,

Mark...

Re: Hotel Mattresses - maping

There were 2 different chains.  The best mattress was at the Shangri-la Hotel in Guilin.  It is a brand new facilityand is probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in.  It was there that I asked if they might be able to tell me anything about the mattress.  A week after I got home I received an email apologizing for the delay and for not being able to tell me more than it is custom-made.  The other good mattress was at the Sofitel in Xi'An.  Both felt much firmer than our S&F.  I think when hotel chains contract for new mattresses, they must tell the suppliers their specs.  It seems that's what I need to know rather than who makes them, or am I wrong?

What about the hand-made vs mass-produced argument?  Are the hand-made ones actually better quality, enough to make a difference?  Since returning I was...

I've been reading older posts and Shifman-Chateau keeps getting mentioned.  I googled S-C and found Bloomingdales as a local dealer in my area.  Their Shifman mattresses do not include the "Chateau" name.  The mattresses are all cotton which I've learned is a good thing.  I'm amazed to find so many people with back problems, like me, going to chiropractors, physical therapy, etc.,and yet when they stay at a hotel, talk about feeling so much better after sleeping in a hotel bed.  Anyway...I wonder if anyone knowledgeable about mattresses has anything good to say about the Shifman mattresses.  I'm specifically interested in the Traditional Firm, the Traditional Super Firm, and the Handmade Original firm. The write up says they're made the old fashioned way.  Can that be true?  they're also called "two sided mattresses"...does that mean they can be flipped (like in days of yore)?
