Re: Green Sleep Coil + Latex - DianeK

This is a line I have been looking at quite seriously and I too am very impressed.  They feel very supportive and look very well made.  Unfortunately, I have fibromyalgia and because they are using Dunlop latex, even their softest topper layer gives me a bit of pressure.  I'm keeping an eye on the line as they are making some changes and maybe, just maybe one will have a soft enough top for me.  Given their price, and the beauty of their wool quilting, I would hate to have to start to fiddle with it by adding my own topper.  Where are you seeing these?

Besides their all latex models, Green Sleep also makes a mattress with hand-tied pocket coils which is topped with latex.  Their foundations are either slat-based, or dowel based, both of which have quite a bit of give.  I'm giving these serious consideration.  I have to say that the one night I slept on a Hypnos at a B&B was even more uncomfortable as the 3 nights I once slept on a tempurpedic!  Even my husband, at almost double my weight, found the Hypnos way too firm.  I don't doubt that they are excellently made beds but you really have to want a firm bed to get on of these.

Ganderson,

I find the jiggly nature of latex, especially talalay.. to be somewhat unsettling to sleep on.  It feels unsecure and I suspect that may bother my subconscious.   A while back I was comparing a 2 inch piece of talalay from rockymountainmattress to a 2 inch piece from FBM that I think might have been dunlop.. though they sold as "talalay".  Much firmer, did not have the jiggle.  I preferred the dunlop feel, but have needed softer feel than you can get in dunlop...

But I digress.  I now find that a just one inch 4 lb density memory foam from overstock.com on top of multiple layers of latex both gives some soft conform to my side sleeping boney frame .. but also kills the jiggle feel.

I, too, am heat sensitive, and one inch of mem foam is not enough to create the...

Scalped my Serta Today..Update 9-13-1 Edited: Storebought count now 22 failed but Breakthrough on DIY for lower back sufferers.. new thread! - shovel99

Hi folks. Mattress Surgery initial report. I cut the top off my queen sized Serta Perfect sleeper today.

It was really easy, and just as JImsocal and sandman described.  Thanks to their encouragement and documentatin here,

I hope to be sleeping better soon!  Took about 15 minutes with a sharp utility knife.  Punched through and just held it up and

slice slice slice and the top was off.  I am very encouraged that this is going to work out well, and that I will be recomending it

to everyone.

I have already arranged my first trial stack and it feels really, really good.  If I don't get it the first time, I am guardedly optitmistic that

some fiddling will get me to a good night's sleep.

Can anyone recommend a good experience of 2" Sensus on a firm coil mattress? - shovel99

Hi folks,

I am wondering if I need to give 2 inches of sensus on top of firm mattress a try.  Has anyone bought 2" toppers from either overstock... foambymail.... or someone else that you are really happy with for some length of time?  On top of a firm mattress?  I tend to see comments that folks love MF or tempur beds for a (short) while and then either the product or the body... "fails."

Over the past couple of years, I have tried mostly latex from 1" to 6 inches in combos of 1" and 2 inch layers, and feel that the push back is not accomodating my spine.  I did include 1 " of "eco green latex 4 lb memory foam.. which I have folded to test 2 inches, and a 1 inch sensus 5 slb piece.. both from overstock.  The "sensus" one inch...

Supersoft Poly (1 inch) over HD 36 Polyurethane (1 inch) Waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too hard form me last night! - shovel99
Aug 30, 2010 6:35 AM
sad   Latest stab was a bust.    Tried all poly solution for toppers over firm Serta mattress.   Both came from foamdistributing.com and were really cheap like $36 for both.. so wishful thinking.  "supersoft" is the softest they sell, felt somewhat like 20 ILD foambymail latex, so thought it might work.  So hard I woke up in pain at 4 AM and resorted back to 1 inch foam by mail latex 20 ILD under 4 lb memory foam econ green from overstock.

Not great but could sleep.

Just going nuts, folks.

Hi Gasoline.... love that handle!

Last night latest try - poly foams 1 inch soft- 1 inch hard.  was a disaster.... waaaaaayyyyy too hard. I got up at 4 am and started playing musical toppers.  I should disclaimer my advice as coming from Thomas Edison.... just before he discovered the electric light!  It was said that after his 10,000 failure, he was asked "you have failed 10,000 times... don't you think you should give up?"  He replied" I haven't failed 10,000 times, I am getting closer, because I have eliminated one more way it can't be done!"

At 4 AM I resorted to an earlier attempt that was OK:   1 inch of 4 lb eco friendly memory foam from overstock.com (laugh) which is pretty good mem foam for cheap, but laughable streaky green!  Under that was 1 inch of 20 ILD latex.  I have been experimenting...

Since you're in NYC, why don't you take a trip down to ABC Carpet and Home at Broadway & 19th and try out their latex mattresses to see if you like them.  They have both Talalay and Dunlop offerings on the floor from 4 different manufacturers. I think they have some memory foam models there too so you can compare side by side.  At least that would give you some idea what direction you want to go, even if some (or all) of the models they sell are out of your price range. You could also try out Ikea's dunlop latex mattresses which are on their floor, in your price range, and seem a lot firmer than the squishy Green Sleep ones at ABC.

Re: Green Sleep Coil + Latex - terra3

In Canada, "The Mattress and Sleep Shop".  I ended up ordering the Allegra.  Incredible support and comfy for this cat.  Good for my ailing back.  I went into the shop with no intent to ever pursue a coil mattress again after a dismal short run with an expensive Kingsdown, including equally dismal product support (or lack of).  So Natura Rest was the item I focused on and very nearly purchase . . . also very good for myself.  But upon laying on the Allegra . . . bliss.  Spent a while on it as it is quite firm, but the comfort was so good.  Thought for quite a while whether to chance a coil-based mattress again, recalling some comments on this board about the availability of 'good' coil construction, combined with good upper layering, from a few companies that take the time to do so.  I believe this Co is...

Opinions on their design of coil foundations with quilted latex/wool upper?  Was very impressed with the support and feel of their lower end Allegra set.

thanks
