The original mattress company used to have them.  I don't know if they still do.

I don't see any Omalon listed at originalmattressfactory.com. Weird. The only omalon I can find on the net is a page where Carpenter foam factory discusses it, but nowhere is it for sale. I'm going to try calling Carpenter and see if they can tell me where to get it....

Good point re the cost. I agree, if I could get something that worked for a couple years for $300, I'd do it!

I have probably spent about $1,200. on foam over the years and have thrown a lot of it away! Problem with Simmons is that mine didn't even last 2 years before it was too soft. Also, the problem with Simmons is that they can get damaged just transporting it. If at any time the mattresses is folded over - like when the deliverers are moving it around corners - it can get screwed up. But if it works, and lasts 2 years, great! Personally I would go with any brand other than SImmons....

Good luck with your mattresses. I did not try these because I thought they had too much soft foam over the M-grade core. But everyone is different.
Is it possible with these mattresses to remove some of that foam on top, or turn them over so you are sleeping on the M-grade foam, not the memory foam?
I had the basic model with 5" of M-grade foam and 2" of memory foam on top and so I just turned it over and slept on the M-grade foam. When I spoke with Vlad at overnightmattress that was his first recommendation when I told him it felt too soft for me. So I told him I had already tried that.

I do think the M-grade foam is a very good foam for sleeping but it DOES soften up a bit over time. For some this is probably a good thing. For me, it made...

I agree with many of your comments on foam and springs.

One thing I disagree with is that I would NEVER buy a Simmons again! I think they are crap springs which are designed not to last (or at least they know they will not last). MIne lasted less than 2 years before it became absolutely useless. That was many years ago, so MAYBE they've improved them a bit, but your post suggests they have not improved them enough to warrant buying them.

I am still deciding on whether or not GOOD springs might be necessary for a comfortable foam bed (HR or latex and/or high-quality memory foam).

I have the problem you mentioned about the bed bouncing (transfer of motion) from one side to another. My wife is a tosser-turner and finally we HAD to sleep on two twin mattresses placed side by side because I am a light sleeper and...

I have seen a lot of people on this site use the original mattress factory which uses flippable mattresses that look pretty inexpensive. Would this work for what I want?...

Jim, I was sleeping best on a pocket coil futon mattress from Norka futon. I'm now sleeping on the Original Mattress Factory "Legacy Firm". If you are sleeping with two twins next to each other, don't go with the pocket coils. Go with the bonnell or offset coils. Call around and see if you have a small manufacturer in your area....

Corrected to show that we got the HQ foam rather than the R.

Last year we finally decided that our Beautyrest was not working. (I found myself sleeping the edge of the bed for support). The mattress had stopped feeling comfortable after 4-5 years and at the time it was 7 years old. I was very disappointed in how it wore out so quickly.  I vowed that I wouldn't buy another Beautyrest again. I started the search of a new mattress and educated myself on the problems of the "S" brands and tried many mattresses. I have a weird back injury that was from a sledding accident and am pretty picky.  After a while, I couldn't find something...

Thanks for this very informative post.

It looks like those in the NE have a good, reasonable priced regional mattress maker in the Original Mattress Company. It looks like all their stuff is flippable, and that right there says a lot.

Well, my mattress set from Original Mattress Factory arrived tuesday, and I was totally impressed with the ultra-professional delivery personnel and how efficiently they maneuvered the queen mattress up two flights of stairs and around an awkward turn....without squishing the mattress. The other store who delivered my former Symbol, just crammed it around the bend, pushed it, etc., And last night sleeping was a dream come true. Originally I had purchased a Legacy firm set, for $539 plus an up-charge for split box. But the day before, I drove to the store, about 45 minutes away, one last time for a "sleep" test, and was glad I did! I changed my order and upgraded to an orthopedic extra firm set, for $669. It felt so much more comfortable and I could feel the different type of springs, which were much closer together, under my...
