I don't know anything about OMF but I welcome any attempt to make the industry better. I certainly welcome your efforts and reasons. I always forget how to link to the old site, but there was information about OMF there.

Re: Latex Mattress Confusion! - Savvy Rest - Sleepez - Flobeds??? - cmom05

Thanks Beddybye - Baybed looks nice, but I am in the middle of GA - so no where near the store!

I did find a local store here that sells Restonic Latex Beds. LI is the supplier for them, but I am sure they use all synthetic. I'll probably still go test it out to see what it feels like but am worried about smell etc...those big showrooms never have a smell but it is totally different when it comes home. We have one other mattress dealer that carries the Sealy Spring Free - which LI also supplies for - but I know a bunch of other stuff is used in that mattress as well. Anyone heard of Restonic? I'll do a search on the forum as well.

My mom just ordered a Latex bed from Original Mattress Factory. She gets it on Saturday. Their Latex is from LI (who's isn't?)...
Re: BEWARE of Natura World Green Series Mattresses - BillB

Here is some good info on Latex.... Do beware of anyone saying its all natural or 100%. From what I can decipher, there is no such thing.

This essay is on several of the latex bed seller's web pages and is informative.

The Truth About Latex
We have spoken with many people representing many companies about latex–how it’s processed, what’s added to it, how it’s shipped, how it’s tested, what all the numbers mean–and we know how confusing it can be. It’s partly because we are thousands of miles from rubber farms and partly because companies pitch whatever they sell as the best and everything else as inferior.

Let’s start with what everyone seems to agree on:

Rubber trees grow only within about 10 degrees of the equator, and they grow best on hilly slopes.

The trees are sliced at an angle, and a small amount of serum is collected daily.

Inexpensive, but well made, firm coils springs for under latex topper? - jeffandpamsmith

Trying different combo's for a pair of kingsized beds.  Need 2 beds anyway so I have 2 chances to get it right (the other will be a frequently used spare bedroom).

I have FBM latex 6" core and 4 seperate 1" toppers of diff softness to change around.

Some here have said they prefer the latex over a coil springs.  Since I can't take that back, or exchange it like the latex, does anyone have a suggestion for a good, well made, firm coil springs to serve as the base.

Cost effective is important, but not the top priority.  So far Original Mattress Factory has their best for just under $700 with tax and delivery, but I don't know If I need that good since it will have 4" of latex over it.

I assume those that want the coils over the latex base do so for the added firmness of...
Re: can the Costco cuddle bed serve as my mattress cover for a DIY latex bed, or do I need terrycloth or more "finished" cover? - jeffandpamsmith

Thanks for the quick answers.  FBM doesn't give you (or at least me) the standard striped cover big enough to fit all the layers, just the 6" base. If I wanted 10" I either had to buy the 10" striped one for full price, or order a 10" terrycloth from SleepEZ for $80.  I'll definetely take your advice and cover it with something, but would like to at least wait till I have my sizes decided.  I'll jury rig something for now keeping the fragility in mind until we decide on the arrangement of layers.  I may not need all 4" of topper, plus I may look at just putting the topper over a good coil springs from Original Mattress Factory (depends on what suits Pam best) and just cover the topper.

Then there's the posibility of ordering a nice "real" mattress cover from Shaun at SleepEZ for $250, but...
OMF vs Heavenly Bed? - lplowry
Apr 14, 2009 4:15 AM
We are desperately in need of a new bed (high end Simmons pillowtop with severe indentations). We are considering the Original mattress Factory since they have flippable models. i'm wondering if it might be better to get a non-pillowtop and then buy a topper so that we could change the topper every few years instead of replacing the whole mattress? But we're not too familiar with that company so don't know about quality for the long haul.

The other model we're considering is the Westin Heavenly Bed. I worry b/c it's not flippable, but maybe it will hold up longer if it's built to withstand heavy hotel traffic??

Any input is appreciated!

Re: wHY NO WATERBEDS ON HERE AND TEMPURS - porchdog

Tempurpedic is so costly simply because their return rate is over 20%. That's unheard of in this industry. Personally I think a latex mattress, 6" core + 2" soft topper and zippered quilted cover is the best way to go. The cover is the same that were put on the original soft sided waterbeds back in the 70's. I know this to be true because I worked in the factory in California that originated the first dual chambered (his and her) soft sided waterbed. In fact it was my idea to do this because my wife was pregnant with our first child and I would disturb her every time I rolled over. Splitting the water mattress into two halves and running a foam separater up the middle solved that problem and the "split king" was born. It became our biggest seller. Now that latex is back, it truly the best...
Importance (or not) of the cover [my first post] - WestofCary

Hello, and thanks for creating a very informative and interesting forum. I do feel that I learn 2 things, and then have 3 more questions. Oh well...

My wife and I have decided that latex (mattress!) is the way to go for us, and of the few we've been able to recline upon, we prefer softer ones, like the Serta Serenity Plush, a similar Serta model, and (maybe especially) the Original Mattress Factory's "plush" latex model (see http://www.originalmattress.com/products_and_prices/mattresses_and_box_springs/foam_and_latex_mattresses.aspx ) . What each of these seem to have in common is a fairly thickly quilted cover which contains a (non-latex) foam. (These are not pillow-tops, which we do not prefer and I've learned here are to be avoided.) These were the most comfortable in our 20-30 minute tests, as the less quilted ones seemed too firm to our liking. When I investigate the world of options on the internet, there seems to...

Springs not foam, make the difference - Marybeth
May 16, 2009 8:40 AM
Took me over a month to really learn the difference through trial and error, but I made my decision.  I just purchased a queen mattress set, firm, made in a small factory where only 30 mattresses are made daily.   All of them by hand, using coils, cotton batting and just a small amount of foam under the top surface, and they are flippable!  And the real box spring is composed of coils, cotton and wood, not just wood and a cover.  A month ago I originally piurchased a top of the line Symbol Comfortec Firm, with split box (made of wood and fabric only) and had it for 2 weeks and it began to sink in the center.  After complaing to the manufacturer and dealer, I was lucky enough to get my money back which is very unusual.  When I went into THAT store and said I wanted a mattress with NO foam,...
