He's had his own store now since 1992. I bought two daybed mattresses from him back in '95. My daughter still sleeps on hers and she'll be 16 in August. I have his zippered, latex and coil model.

This is what my mattress guy did. He got tired of basically lying to his customers and telling the same story over and over. So, he opened his own mattress shop. He sells readymades (off-brand, but decent quality) AND, he makes the zippered mattresses, one of which I have. Latex and springs. Best wishes to you! Two thumbs up.

PS Don't know how much I spent but it was by far the best value at the time. You can check their website for a description and picture--they still look the same as well....

Hi,

The mattresses we bought our kids were "Regency" in the "better" category at OMF in Charlotte, NC.  We ended up putting HR foam toppers ago on them about 3 years ago when I discovered an outlet in Asheville, NC that has amazing quality eggcrate toppers, not available in stores. They didn't really need them as there were no complaints from my young men but wanted to add the padding anyway since the mattresses are on the firm side.

Hope that helps.

Bought 4 twin mattresses there about 12 years ago for 4 sons who were elementary and middle school age. The mattresses were their mid-grade and flippable and very reasonably priced. They have held up wonderfully and now all the guys weight over 170 lbs. They still have the same model on the floor today at my store. They also have one of the best feeling latex mattresses I've ever tried. But they don't let you get a refund if you don't like a mattress after a test run so I was hesitant to purchase one from them this year. I have heard over the last year that they have had the same problem with their pillow tops all other manufacturers have had, but that's not first hand info. Hope that helps!...

Do you have an Original Mattress Factory in your city?  www.originalmattress.com They have 3 levels of innerspring mattresses with several levels of padding. The orthopedic firm has the strongest tempered coils (12 3/4 with 6 turns) and all their mattress are double sided. Their midlevel firm has more give in the coils and more to my comfort and liking than the hard orthopedic but both will provide years of service. Stay away from the entry level cheap ones--they are for children and guest rooms.

Since they are flippable mattresses, you will double your wear. They are very reasonably priced as well.

If you don't have these stores, the sealy coils and the strearns and foster are double tempered and therefore stronger; sealy has more per mattress but S & F have thicker gauge wire. If you choose a sealy, stay in the midrange where the queen is 14 gauge and over...

Thanks Beddybye--Yes! I co mean innerspring. What was I thinking? I'd love not to have to reconstruct a mattress down the road when the innards wear out so I thought a good innerspring with a minimal amount of PU and a good amount of latex might be the answer.

Cloud9, we do have an Original Mattress Factory here in town that makes double sided mattresses in their factory here according to order. None of the innersprings have any latex. But that is a very good suggestion because they have some models with hardly any padding. I will look into that....

Hello again, All!
Thanks to the people who answered my query and invitations for any and all others to share their knowledge of this company with me.
To BeddyBye, I appreciate your well wishes and your input.  It sounds like your friend was in the same boat I am in now.  I am simply tired of sitting by and watching the quality of mattresses go down, expectations go down, durability go down, and prices go up!  How long has your friend been in business?  I know the factory direct approach has worked in many other retail industries but I am not so certain of the feasibility of it with mattresses.  The Original Mattress Factory (from this point on, for the ease of typing, I will refer to it as OMF) has been around since, I think, 1990 and is owned by Ron Trzinski (sp?) who was the president of the Ohio...

Hello all.
I don't know if you remember me, but I have been in the mattress industry for the past 14 years on the retail sales end.  I have recently decided to get away from selling the Sealy, Serta, Simmons national brand concept as I just don't believe they are giving my customers an acceptable value.  I have researched many other mattress companies and found that all of the retail stores are the same when it comes to philosophy.  They all believe cash is king and sell your customer at all costs.  I am a Christian, so I have a problem with selling products I don't believe in and I have an even bigger problem trying to push a person into making a decision they aren't ready to make.  For 14 years I have been questioned every time I allowed a customer to "walk" without buying anything and I simply can't...
Desperately Need Mattress Purchase Help! - Zortania

My fiancee and I purchased a King size mattress from The Original Mattress Factory a while back. We've had it replaced twice now and the smell just isn't going away. I've had a sinus infection due to the mattress chemicals, and just cannot sleep on the mattress without having some sort of sinus issues. I can't really even  be in the room with it sometimes for long without it just really bothering me. Most people that have been around here smell it when I've asked them to check, but they aren't finding it to cause issues for them. But, I was living in a home with smokers for the last 15 years of life, so I think now that I'm free my sinuses have a lot of adjusting to do.

Anyways, I've heard that organic mattresses are pretty good, but are pricey, and no way in my area (Charlotte, NC) to...
