Re: Beckley question - confusedbedbug

I would echo what Beach Lover has to say about the Beckley and the toppers..and the Hastens topper for that matter. We have really begun to enjoy this bed most now that we have added 2" of memory foam under the Hastens topper. It is still firm, very supportive and comfortable. I am just finishing up a not so lovely two days of a flu bug and I can say I was quite comfortable in that bed even with all my flu body aches.
We ended up removing the 1/2 wool topper - it just made things too soft and it has compressed over the past year, under the hips. We are now in search of a mattress topper, cotton, that can protect the Hastens topper. Likely we will end up with Hastens mattress pad which has elastic straps and can easily be moved to allow the topper to be fluffed...

Well it's understandable that you might be reluctant to cut your mattress open. That's kind of an "I've got nothing to lose at this point" venture.
You mentioned you recently moved, so you should know that most major brand mattresses are usually manufactured by regional factories. If you've moved out of the region you originally bought your mattress in you could have a hard time getting the local factory to cover your warranty. Unless the store you bought the mattress from will stand behind it you are basically responsible for getting the mattress back to the factory that orignally made it. With something as big and heavy as a king size latex mattress this could be next to impossible.
Mattresses made by companies like Flobeds and SleepEz are 100% latex. They should last 20 years without sagging if they are placed on a proper frame and foundation that will adequately support their...

Where do you live, Jim? I'm thinking from your username, Southern Ca? The guy who owns Bay Bed and Mattress where I bought my "custom mattress" can get the coil units from Leggett & Platt. Originally mine came with an individually pocketed Marshall coil unit. It was too conforming, (or at least he and I came to that conclusion), so he took it out and exchanged it with a LuraFlex coil unit. It was $50 per XL Twin. What he does is put the spring unit within a very dense foam encasement that he cuts so the coils will fit in perfectly. When he changed my coils, he had to take back the mattress so he could cut the foam a bit because the LuraFlex unit was a bit wider than the pocketed coils. This foam encasement makes for a nice edge. He did tell me the foam...

My opinion obviously is that zoning works and helps, and that will be better than a single ILD layer. Whether you will find that dunlop comfortable, or 2" of 22-28-22 enough is an individual issue. I doubt you could go wrong with it. 28 is med/soft but can always add 1" of soft latex (Brylane had 1" toppers for @$60 a while back--may have again). If soft enough but not enough differential between hips/shoulders, instead of 1" can next buy a 2" 36 or 40 ILD twin and a 2" 20 ILD twin. Run the high ILD under midsection, and split the 20 ILD lengthwise for shoulders and lower leg. You will have factory edges to mate w/ the twin piece, with cut edges at head and toe. 4" of total depth. Solving back pain issues is well worth the time and $.

Original Mattress Factory latex mattress - lpg42

My husband and I were consistently waking with aching backs and wanted to get a softer mattress, as ours was extremely firm. I studied the postings on this site for days and decided I wanted to try a latex (not memory foam) mattress. I was willing, but not thrilled, to order sight-unseen from Sleep EZ, but my husband preferred to find something locally in Pittsburgh. We went to the Original Mattress Factory, as we have always loved their ads, and bought a latex mattress. There were only two choices. Both were medium firmness, one thicker than the other. We went with the thicker one. It was $1399 for the queen size, including delivery, setup, and removing the old one. I was somewhat concerned that it might be too firm, but it's absolutely wonderful! We've had it a year now, and no more backaches ever! I'd recommend the Original Mattress Factory...
