Re: Beautyrest Black Zarina vs Perfect Day Penumbra - jimsocal

Both manufacturers are near the bottom in terms of quality and customer satisfaction, from what I have heard. I myself bought a Simmons about 10 years ago and would never buy another one because I am not convinced they solved the inherent problem in their springs.
The Simmons you mention has some Talalay latex in it. That's a good thing but I wonder how much. 1/2"? 1"? Bet it ain't much. For $7k it should have some major latex layers in it! But of course they don't tell you that on the web pages because they don't want people asking questions about what's in their mattresses.
They are both pillowtops. If you did the slightest bit of research here in the forum you would know that pillowtops are the worst thing to buy.
My best advice is to do some research before you buy. You...
Re: bought pillow top mattress yesterday and it has a lump!!! - jimsocal
Sep 28, 2009 5:07 PM
My fiance and I bought our first mattress yesterday. We went to a mattress store and ended up buying a lightly used Florence Beautyrest Black. We were really excited since we got it for 400dlls, so we put it in the truck we had rented and left it on its side for a few hours while we went to get other furniture. Later that night when we finally put the mattress on the bed frame it had a HUGE lump in the middle. We thought this was because the pillow top moved a little while the mattress was on its side on the truck, so we tried putting the mattress on the other side while trying to smooth out/beat the lump from it. It didnt help much, the lump just moved a little bit.
How do we get rid of the bump? Were we robbed (the bump...
Re: Simmons Beautyrest Alana Vista - Alexander

Good Morning!
A little bit of internet hopping shows that the Alana Vista series was active about 4 years ago, making it very unlikely that the specific bed is still made. However, it should be possible to find the comparable current Simmons mattress. Have your relative look at the foot of the bed and on the side tags for the words "Classic" or "World Class" or "Exceptionale" or "Black". The name twinges my "Exceptionale" sense but I wouldn't take my word on that.
Simmons with the words "Plush Pillowtop" are usually their memory foam topped versions as opposed to their latex topped versions. If you can tell me which of the above series it is I can point you in the right direction.
Goodluck!

$2000 burning a hole - gilderdave

Hi all - New to this site... We want a king mattress and have about 2k to spend. We were looking at the Simmons nxg 250 firm, but now I hear they're going out of bus, they get impressions, etc. Don't want to be stuck with a 2k stinker. We like firm with a little mem foam type give and like the non-disturb nautre of the beautyrest... Any rec's? We thought about sleep #, but the middle turned us off. We want a solid plane, no dips please! looking at the simmons black as well - stronger coils?
thanks!...
Sealy Latex or Simmons Black - Mike22
May 24, 2010 4:11 PM
I've been shopping around for a bed now for quite a while. I ended up buying a pillowtop mattress about 6 months ago that I find to be way too soft now. It just doesn't provide my back the support I am looking for unfortunately. So I have narrowed down my selection to the Sealy Springfree Plush model and the Simmons Beautyrest Black Olivia Plush/Firm model. In the back of my mind I am also considering the Simmons Black Josephine Firm. Problem is that I like the feel of all these with the first two being my favorites, but I don't know how they will feel over a period of time and I don't know which will theoretically be more reliable. I've heard that latex is typically more reliable than coil mattresses, however the Sealy I believe uses a synthetic form which is not supposed to last as long as...
Re: Firm mattress / low Foam suggestions - TC2334

Okay, so I went back and did some serious testing of the Imperials. Unfortunately, Imperial is playing as many headgames as the other companies, with goofy model names and also not prominaintly marking theirs with the Imperial label.
Model 640 10" Tempercoil: Has a layer of foam on the top. Feels a little stiff, not hard or harsh, but definitely not plush. I still think I might like this set with a foam topper added to soften it slightly, unless it breaks in with use. The cover was kind of tan or gray & black, and patterened, not white like the online catalog shows. It's a stretchy fabric. Also not a quilted flat-top like the catalog shows. That quilted foam layer on top is obvious to the eye. Good very firm mattress. They called it Temperpedic Absolute Pearl-Lux. Price was $1100 or maybe $1199 for the set.

Help with Simmons Warranty Replacement - markd2000
Feb 4, 2011 9:17 AM
Today I received positive news from Simmons that they will honor their warranty to replace my king mattress. What's even better, this is the second replacement on the original mattress that was purchased 9 years ago. Here's the issue. The original and replaced mattress were both high end pillowtop models (original cost $2000). They are giving me an allowance for a new mattress up to a value of $3000. We have decided to stay away from the pillowtops and focus on plush mattresses. Does anyone have a recommendation? Their website features Beautyrest Anniversary, World Class, Exceptionale, and NxG series as well as the Beautyrest Black collection. Thanks, Mark...
New & desperately need advice re: adding layers on top of painfully firm Beautyrest - sleepymom
Jul 6, 2011 1:15 PM
I'm a newbie and am desperate. My husband and I are now on our 3rd mattress from Macy's, and we get no more preference changes. We first had Simmons Beautyrest Black, which had poor quality memory foams that provided no support whatsoever, and our backs hurt because we sank too much. (We do NOT recommend the Beautyrest Black!). On our third, and final, selection, we went with a Simmons Beautyrest Elderberry Tight Top Firm, even though the saleswoman said we'd need a topper b/c it is so firm. She was right. Alone, it is like sleeping on concrete, so it ends up being like a box spring. (It has no give even if we jump on it).
We initially added a 1.5" geo cut "Memory Foam Bed Topper by Beautyrest" that I bought at Bed, Bath & Beyond. It was too soft of a topper anyway, and did...
frustrated at this whole mattress shopping experience - wynnsayz
Aug 9, 2011 10:02 PM
Hey guys,
I've been sleeping on a futon mattress for the past 8 years and I went to a chiropractor recently and found out I really need to get a good mattress. I went to Sit n Sleep and I found some pretty good mattresses. However, all of them felt great compared to the bad futon mattress. What made this mattress shopping absolutely horrifying and frustrating are the reviews I read, mainly on this site.
I can't remember the exact model or style, but the ones the store manager recommended were: simmons beautyrest black (around 2200 for queen), sleep to live (around 1700 for queen), serta icomfort (around 1200 for full XL).
For those three, I have found mainly bad reviews for various reasons and since this is not a cheap purchase, it really scares me.
I guess what scares me the...
Help end my mattress search saga! Looking for memory foam with no toxic fumes - mjoeroy
Oct 6, 2011 11:39 AM
I'm glad I found this site. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one having problems finding the right mattress. The long & short of it is that I'm trying to find a memory foam bed with no or little toxic fumes. Here's my story:
We slept for 13 years on a Simmons Beautyrest. Only in the last year we would both were waking up sore so we figured it was time to change. I researched & tried several mattresses. Ended it up picking the Ava (tight top, plush firm) from the black label collection of Beautyrest (also called Carmen in some on-line stores). That's really the one that seemed the best to us. When we first got it it seemed softer than at the store but still comfortable. Unfortunately I got it only a week before going on a 2 weeks vacation. My comfort guarantee...
