I know what you mean about the lack of "jiggle" with Dunlop.  I tried out a Natura latex bed with a Dunlop core and Talaly comfort layer and the mattress just felt "dead" to me....

Custom Comfort is a great little company that I personally would highly recommend, however LI's blended talalay does contain filler (LI does not deny this, but will not confirm it either due to the fact they consider that information proprietary). Not that there is any problem I am aware of in with the use of fillers, I just want to make it clear that it is not 100% latex content. LI's blended talalay is a fine product containing appoximately 70% synthetic (SBR) latex with the balance natural (derived from the hevea brasiliensis, or the rubber tree). The process of making Dunlop or Talalay latex, either all natural or blended does involve the use of many chemicals.

The first step in preserving the latex, as well as the first step in the manufacturing process is to add ammonia, and small amounts of thiurams. These prevent the premature...

Hi Don,

I wrote a response to yoiur post in the thread "Savvy Rest Repot" which may give you more info. I have the 4 layer all-natural talalay, with the very top layer being the convulted "eggcrate" piece) I didn't word my response above very well. Basically I need a soft top layer (not counting the convuluted layer), but am trying to find the right combo of softness and support overall. If I put a medium layer on top, I don't find it soft enough.

I find the top soft core gets a bit depressed in the middle where my hips are, and am concerned especially over the long term.I only sleep on one side of the bed so have not experienced the "split" problem that Chris is having. (In fact, my 12 year old bed had a split latex mattress (except for 2"...

Thanks Jimsocal and Don for your comments. I have the all natural talalay with 3 3" layers and the thin convulted ("eggcrate") talaly on top. I have a chronic illness and pain and need quite a soft top layer but with very good support overall. I sleep primarily on my side (and some on my back) and am 5'51/2", about 130 lbs.

I have the 2 sides of a queen set up differently so have tried every possible combination I think! Nothing works unless I have soft on top ; have tried medium on top and it's just not soft enough for me (in terms of relieving pressure points). Currently, on the side I sleep on, I have it set up with soft on top, then 2 firms, which is the combination I've slept the most on.

This combo is not ideal, as it's still a...

I'm checking into their guarantee and return policy.  They do state on their website that if you get the mattress home and it's not working out, they will pick it back up and work with you to customize it to be comfortable.  But, I'm not sure if they have a return or exchange policy - checking into that.

Regarding the configuration of the components, the interior components are blended Talalay latex.  The firmest model has a 6" core of blended Talalay latex, with the mattress cover over it.
The medium model has the 6" blended Talalay core, with two 1" layers of softer blended Talalay latex on the top and on the bottom (this is because they make their latex mattresses two-sided), for a total of 8", and the mattress cover over that.
The softest model has the 6" blended Talalay core, with two 2" layers of softer blended Talalay latex on the...

Hi,
I have just joined this site in the pursuit of a new mattress for my room. I have never slept on a latex mattress,I have slept on an innerspring with a tempurpedic topper ,but from what I have researched thus far they seem to have the contouring capabilities of a tempurpedic with the resilience of an innerspring and the adjustment capabilities of a sleep number ...Simply being that one has the option to adjust the firmness. In recent months ,saving my money,I have been looking at this http://www.sleepez.com/latex-mattress-buyers-guide.htm

...

Today I then stumbled upon this...

http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/latex-flobed-sinks-middle-suggestions/6019-0-1.html .

I then Joined this site to reply to that thread as I have a similar problem with the beauty rest Queen mattress I have sinking in the middle as I am the only one who sleeps on it and I find myself in the middle . At that point I was considering contacting Sleep...

Kim,

I can't speak to the other brands but I can give you a bit on the Sealys. There's virtually no practical difference between the SpringFree and the PurEmbrace lines. It's primarily just a packaging and marketing piece. The PurEmbrace has a flatter top and a beige sort of look, etc.

I can give you a few tips for general latex shopping.

- Shop Talalay. You want a bed that is pure Talalay, no Poly cores or Dunlop layers.

- If it's an option, the type of Talalay you want is blend. Blend is a mixture of manmade and natural latex which provides a better balance of longevity and comfort. The difference between many manufacturers is what percentages of each they use in their cores.

- Shop somewhere that gives you a comfort exchange....

Re: Bed that won't "lump" in the middle - Alexander
Aug 31, 2009 10:35 AM
Fender,

The lump you're describing could be something that is often referred to as a "King Bump". It's caused by the difference in box support between the edges of the King boxes and the centers. Since kings (Or California King) mattresses use two edge reinforced boxes the support is naturally sturdier where the boxes meet in the middle of the bed than it is halfway between the middle and the edge. I'd be willing to bet that if you looked the "lump" coincides with the point where the two boxes meet.

You have several options here:

1) Sealy's warranty does cover this problem if it has created a difference in bed height greater than 1.5" from the highest point of the lump to the lowest (non-button) point of your deepest impression. Sealy's warranty is 10 years non-prorated, non-fixit. (You should more or less get a comparable mattress or even the money you paid...
