Re: Finding a good Latex mattress in the Store, especially the LA area, AND know anything about Aireloom Luxury Latex? - cloud9

Most S-brand latex mattresses are not all latex. They feature a latex core --sometimes all synthetic as in the case of the Sealy Springfree-- and a "comfort" layer made of the same low grade, quick to sag PU you'll find in a standard innerspring mattress. Be sure to inquire about the construction of any latex mattress you are interested in. Don't take the salesman's word for it. Most of the time they are misinformed or don't really know their inventory. Call or e-mail the manufacturer directly for information.
Many stores in the LA area carry Englander latex mattresses. They have a natural Talalay latex core of 30 ILD with a softer comfort layer. You might want to check it out. Very few stores carry more than a couple of latex mattresses since they are considered more of a specialty item, but most stores can order a specific mattress as long as...

My biggest surprise of your post due to our own personal experience and what we have read online by others is that you folks have survived for 17 years using the same innerspring mattress!!
My bride and I had terrible innerspring mattress experiences and switched to waterbed mattresses about 22 years ago (still love 'em!) but my commercial sounding waterbed mattress posts can be found all over this forum so I won't repeat unless you ask me to why we believe the waterbed mattress is a great alternative to other mattress types.
Online statistics seem to show that only about 60% of innerspring mattress owners are happy with their mattresses which means that close the 1/2 are NOT happy. YIKES - before we bought our latest waterbed mattress a few months ago we spent about four months visiting all the area stores and testing every mattress we could find - spring, memory...

I want to find 2" and 3" zoned latex toppers but all the old links are dead, foamsource doesnt carry zoned toppers anymore, or at least they are not listed properly on the website.
I'm a little scared of cutting them into rectangles and wanted simple zones like 24-28-24 using cut hole variation instead of slices.
I know this would take a special mold for full sheet hole zoning, with smaller holes at the hip section.
I just can't find anything online except zoned slices (like flowbeds zoning), although I "KNOW" zoned non-sliced toppers exist because of references, dead links and one overpriced ($800 for 4") natural zoned topper, also overstocks zoned topper thats still listed on the web....

Sleep all day on a mattress in a store? (This must be a joke?) First I think they would kick you out, at some point. Second, if a person can sleep on a mattress all day with the public and store employees coming and going and full lights on, they really don't suffer the sleep problems of most of us, do they?
Twiggy, some simple basics between foam, memory foam, and latex are that regular foam is a petrochemical product, has a lot of quality/firmness levels and is hard to find details about in most commercial manufacturers specs. It can be super soft or very hard. Memory foam is a petrochemical product with also many variables on quality and firmness. However, you should find many of these to try out in stores for a reasonable lay down. You may find it to be the right choice for you. Just a...

I don't know if there are any suggestions for you. Your experience supports the reading I have done that tells me Dunlop, while sturdier, has a firmer feel over Talalay. I guess the ILDs are pretty meaningless, in this case. The place I am looking at for Talalay says "soft" is 20 ILD. Many people say, "Too soft, you won't like it." but they don't know my aching shoulders! You could switch out the 3 inches of Dunlop with Talalay, (or add an inch or 2 on top, if you can stand more height) but is quite a bit more investment. Again, if you can take the height, try an inch or 2 of memory foam? Sticking with something more natural, I can see why you are considering wool
Please keep us posted on the wool topper, if that is your choice. What first led me on my quest to create...

I have read the forum all the different opinions left me with more questions. I been to the mattress stores and physically tried the bed but its difficult to know how i would feel if I take it home. I was hoping to get feedback from someone who has similiar stats and problem as me. Of course I don't expect someone to know my personal comfort preferences. lol Thanks for the tip. :)
Please post if you find anything you like. I am in So Calif and have had a hard time finding high-end beds to try. Not sure where in So Cal but REM Sleep had a nice price on a Natura Eco Brilliance top *only* that I would put on my Latex box. I think i liked it, need to go back and try again. Originally tried it at a place on Western near Melrose...

Since this post I bought a 3" 16-18 ILD from Sleepwarehouse and that is still too firm for me. They will not take returns so I am stuck with it. It's not that it's really hard, i just want to sink in a bit more when laying on my side. It's Dunlop by Latex Green.
Now i have a 12-14 ILD Dunlop on order from Fibex, we will see what that does.
I also bought a 2" Wool topper from sleepandbeyond.com which is a very nice product, but not the soft feel I want.
this is getting expensive since most of these companies will not accept returns.
Almost ready to just start over with a completely different bed.
The Natura Eco Brilliance seemed pretty nice, found a place willing to sell just the top reasonable.
Latex is jiggly....

Thank you for sending me the photos. You have just verified my claims! I am looking at dunlop processed latex. Not natural talalay as they claim. Talalay is extremely refined and I am looking at numerous imperfections consistent with dunlop latex. The coarseness of the edges further proved my claim. Natual talalay does not look like that either....

I've noticed several posts in here about people having good dealings with foambymail. Since I am looking to purchase a latex mattress i decided to give them a call due to the unbelievable pricing compared to every other site on the internet. After spending a good deal of time on their website I picked up the phone and spoke to a real person. That was good. I have done my due diligence in researching latex mattresses and feel I know a lot about them. The first question I asked received an unbelievable respose- Do you use fire retardant chemicals in your covers? Answer- We realize we have a compliance issue and are working to resolve it. So I guess I don't need to send them my doctors prescription for a non-treated mattress like all the other law abiding manufacturers require. Not that I'm complaining but blatent disregard for the laws...

2" #22 ILD is the most popular and for good reason. It works well for anyone under 200lbs. Go all natural talalay if you have the option. It's a little more but well worth the money. Usually around $250...
