So my goal is to find a soft and comfortable, yet supportive and durable mattress. Ideally with some amount of "luxury" feel to the quilting, rather than just a very thin cotton cover with a tiny bit of wool.
I started looking at Simmons, but ruled out everything except the Beautyrest Black Viola (with a tiny bit of latex in it), since the top quilting seems soft and luxurious yet not very tall (it's not a pillowtop), so i would...

Foam by Mail and Foam Distributing have such great prices even with our dollar dropping against the Green Back, and additional taxes I think I would save possibly $1,300.
Foamite is a distributor of foam in the Toronto area, and they have a warehouse showroom where you can sit and sleep on mattresses and find the right blend of ILD ratings and quality of foam. I think with this I would be confident to order something from a US company....

Since you asked for comments or insight, I'll give you a little of both.
Do not judge a bed by its cover.... This is oldest trick in the book in the mattress business and I got caught on it too with the Simmons so-called Latex bed that I bought from JCP. It had a beautiful bamboo cover that really was a big selling point of the mattress. What I've learned since I've had my mattress education on these forums is that the cover really doesn't matter a whole lot other than keeping the latex intact and protected. Most people will put a mattress pad over it anyway. Sure its nice to have a beautiful cover but it is way way down on the list of importance. If you read extensively on here, you will know that people use toppers to achieve that luxorious effect and if it weasr out or...

Here is some good info on Latex.... Do beware of anyone saying its all natural or 100%. From what I can decipher, there is no such thing.
This essay is on several of the latex bed seller's web pages and is informative.
The Truth About Latex
We have spoken with many people representing many companies about latex–how it’s processed, what’s added to it, how it’s shipped, how it’s tested, what all the numbers mean–and we know how confusing it can be. It’s partly because we are thousands of miles from rubber farms and partly because companies pitch whatever they sell as the best and everything else as inferior.
Let’s start with what everyone seems to agree on:
Rubber trees grow only within about 10 degrees of the equator, and they grow best on hilly slopes.
The trees are sliced at an angle, and a small amount of serum is collected daily.
The...

They arrived just after noon, and took the so-called "green" Simmons mattress and foundation set away, so we were able to then go ahead and set up the...

After purchasing their mattress (Manufacturer: Natura World, Line: Green, Model: "Pure") and bringing it home I read the little white label that says that the product legally meets fire retardancy standards and not to remove unless you've purchased the product and yada ya....
This product contains Polyurethane foam!!! The ingedient is hidden under the descriptions of "high quality quilting foam," and "this mattress is 98% natural." Both I and the owner of the store I purchased the product from called the company and found out that the cover OVER the all-natural latex contains an inch of polyurethane memory foam! Now, anybody who is conscienscious enough to buy an organic, natural (what does that word even mean these days?), green or "environmentally friendly mattress" knows that this is the FIRST substance in mattresses to avoid!
Less important, but also worth noting that the company tries...

Natural latex is touted at the best of breed of foam mattresses by a lot of folk. You didn't say what you paid and it looks like the Serenity Cal. King sells for around $2600 for mattress only and $3200 for mattress with foundation package which, to me, sounds like a LOT of cash to pay for a mattress but that's just me.
I'm sure you will continue to be happy with you mattress and this is not intended to be in any way a negative post but it would be helpful to know how your satisfaction holds up after six months and then after a...

Kait, last week I visited Bloomingdale's website and was surprised to see even a few high-end companies (like Shifman) using latex in their $15,000+ coil spring mattresses. Personally I think it's more marketing than anything else, and what irks me is the amount of misinformation and outright disinformation being spread by manufacturers. Even so-called "natural" latex is 60% artificial, petrochemical foam, yet consumers are told it's pure, green and eco-friendly. Just outrageous....
