Re: My own search for memory foam - haysdb

My choice of memory foam is...latex. I just placed an order for 2" of 16-18 ILD 100% Natural talalay latex from SleepWarehouse.

I've been wrestling with this decision for awhile and I have never been able to satisfy my concerns about how well memory foam will work when used under the Intelli-Gel, where it will be well insulated from body heat. Ultimately I chickened out and went with what I am most familiar with....

No. Sorry, I should have mentioned that. It's described only as "100% Natural Latex." It's most certainly a Dunlop latex, and could be from anywhere. I do not have a sample of it so I know nothing more.

Correction: Their website states "Our latex toppers are manufactured via the Talalay process resulting in the highest quality, most supportive and comfortable latex toppers available.  No harmful additives, just 100% all natural latex." That means it's either LI or Dunlopillo. If it was Latex International they would say so, therefore the latex has to be made by Dunlopillo in the UK. BTW, there's nothing wrong with that. Dunlopillo is to Europe as...

When is my order # 4722 scheduled to ship? Also, please ensure that the High Quality (2.8 pounds per cubic foot density) is the foam that ships, and not the lower density.

Their reply:
Hello,

Your order should ship within the next couple of days. You should receive it within a week to a week and a half from when it was placed.

Sincerely,

There's no mention of ensuring that it will be the HQ foam, or saying, "don't worry, you can count it."

Naturally, the first thing I'm going to do is weigh it.

Looks like a copy and paste job to me.  Bambi is probably the directory name where customer service keeps their .txt files they use for the most common email answers...

Jim, I edited my last post to include sleeping preference.  I am mostly a side sleeper, but also stomach. Never back, I just can't do it.

I decided I loved the feel of the latex so much, I wanted to try a latex pillow.  I bought this one from overstock.com, but it has not shipped yet.  I had an overstock gift card, so I ended up paying only $17/ shipped for it.  I will review that as well once it arrives.

Here are the sheets I bought from JcPenney.  Seriously, these feel incredible....

Thanks for the responses.  Actually, I forgot to write that we did try the Natura - it was OK, but the 2 models they had in the showroom were too hard & too plush, respectfully.  I'm on the North side of SoCal, so Custom Comfort would be a bit of a drive, and I doubt they would deliver to me, but if I get a chance I'll try to drive down.

We just saw a new contender at Sit 'n Sleep - the Aireloom "Sweden".  The salesman claimed it was a new all latex model from Aireloom - and the cover was imprinted with "100% Latex" (for what that's worth) - but, of course, they had no specs or literature and the Aireloom web site has nothing about a 100% latex model.  It is *considerably more* money than the Englander - but (again, of course) it felt wonderful.  Does anyone know...
My Dad is having shoulder pain during the night, what would cause that? - Heidilynn
Nov 11, 2007 8:01 AM
My parents had an Englander for about 5 years but it was way too hot and my mom finally put her foot down.  So they bought another foam bed but I am thinking it is Latex, not memory foam from an independent manufaturer in Spokane Washington.  Northwest Bedding is the name of the place where they bought the new mattress.

The problem is that my dad is waking up with bad shoulder pain.  This new mattress is very firm but they were afraid of a pillowtop with memory foam because he sleeps so hot naturally.  Do you guys have any suggestions?  I don't know what to tell them.  They have another 2 weeks to trade it in for a new model.

Thanks!...

How do those sheets compare to the Costco sheets on sale this weekend?

Brylane Home latex topper - any good? - CorinaB
Nov 27, 2007 7:51 PM
I ran across this on my search for toppers.

http://www.brylanehome.com/decor/Natura-Latex-Mattress-Topper.aspx?PfId=94697&DeptId=15184&ProductTypeId=1&PurchaseType=0

It's a 1" latex mattress topper for $64.95, which is vaguely described as "medium" firmness, at Brylane Home. I was wondering if this might be a good place to start as far as getting a comfort layer for a very firm innerspring, since it's not very expensive and it's returnable. Does anyone know what "Natura Latex" is? Is there anything that makes it look like bad quality or...?

BTW, if anyone else is interested in these, be sure to do a search for promo codes, cos there are various ones that would either give you free shipping or a percentage off....
fire retardant chemicals - iowa_baby
Nov 27, 2007 6:39 PM

Some people on this forum are concerned with avoiding the fire retardant chemicals that can be used to meet the new standards, as are we.  So far, no manufacturer I’ve seriously looked at admits to using any chemicals for this purpose.  They all say they have special fibers (Sealy), or rely on the wool layer (Flobed), or a cotton/wool blend (SleepEZ).  The People For Clean Beds.org website claims that “There are no natural or chemical free systems that pass the severe open flame test” and that “While wool would pass the old cigarette test for mattresses, it will not pass the new open flame test. These mattresses either use chemically treaded (sic) wool, another system, or rely on chemically treated cotton batting (Boric Acid and Antimony) to pass the open flame test.”  What’s the opinion of those of you who have...
