He very well may be correct. He also may not be. The ONLY way for Catherine to know for sure is to try a solid latex mattress.

Well... of course. Sean was making a thoughtful recommendation, not offering a guarantee.

Based on the experimenting I've done so far, during the past 5 months, I suspect that he is right about my needing springs.

I'm not sure I can find a continuous-coil mattress with a decent coil count & wire gauge (& price); and even if I do find one to try out locally, I won't know if it's the coils or whatever padding is on top of the springs that's most responsible for how it feels.

It's possible that really well-constructed, heavy-gauge pocket coils would work -- something like the expensive GreenSleep...

Latex International (LI) certifies that the compound utilized to manufacture its Talatech® natural latex mattress cores and toppers includes only natural latex rubber harvested from the “Hevea Brasiliensis” rubber tree, as well as soaps and curing agents. We do NOT use any man-made or synthetic latex in our Talatech® natural latex formula.

Interesting. That letter is dated from 2007; it might be worthwhile to contact LI and find out if their terminology has changed since then (it's hard to tell from their website). My understanding is that Talatech is the trademarked name of their blended-latex product, in which case the phrase "Talatech natural latex" is a contradiction in terms and (obviously) a possible source of much confusion. If they're using "Talatech" to refer to both their blended...

Thank you so much for your reply. I have tried those three beds. They are all comfortable that I have felt that the eco-revive is more substantial. So it is interesting to hear the information you gave me. One problem I have is that I need a smooth top because I have a hypersensitivity in my back from a nerve injury. None of them are smooth on top but it's very difficult to find a bed that is. And that could probably  be remedied. The eco-revive is extremely expensive and cannot be returned so I am hesitant about that. Do you have any suggestions? I have been looking for a long long time.

Thank you so much for the help.

The majority of 100% natural latex sleep products are produced via the Dunlop process, while our latex is produced via the Talalay process. LI’s proprietary compound mix required by the complex Talalay process includes raw materials such as natural rubber latex, zinc oxide, fatty acid soaps, and sulfur, which are needed for the vulcanization, foaming, and curing process.

No I am correct with Latex international. I worked with them for years and have spoke indepth with our account rep and others at LI many times. Currently we do not offer any products from Latex international and I havent for about 2 years, but I am still very up to date with them and play golf every few months with some LI emplyoees including my old account rep.

Mike,

I found another company called Foam Sweet Foam in Lake Forest (Orange Country) (800) 452-6114.  They have all 100% Natural Latex as well and a showroom to lay on them.  Sams has another 100% Latex and it's called American Sleep Organic Item # 190001  for $1,999.  This is the absolute cheapest thing I can find anywhere for 100% Latex and I've put about 4 full days of research into this so far.  If you find anything else, please let me know.  On the Eco-Green one, the memory form part of it is Soy based 70% and then the rest is other.  I talked to the manufacturer direct today.

oh-so-confused... help for new mattress purchase - foam/latex/traditional? - leland

Hi all,

I'm a 30-something with occasional lower back pain. I sleep well, alternating between side and back sleeping. I also heavily over-research all purchases over $200 - much to my detriment :)

Currently I have a firm traditional coil S-brand mattress on an Ikea Malm platform bed. I sleep well, although the slats on the Ikea bed suck. Can't stand it. Anyway, both have moved once too often and it's time to retire them.

So, now I am researching a new mattress and was thinking it might be good to try foam / latex to be a bit kinder to my hips when I sleep on the side. Have had a bit more aches there lately. I have been looking at some mattresses and really liked a firm Englander latex mattress I tried at a local store. Of course it was $1500. I'm...

Re: Please help w/ natural latex mattress choice (sleeptek vs bella sera vs sleepez) - robyns

Hi Heather--my husband and I drove up to the Natural Sleep Store yesterday and tried out Bella Sera, Savvy Rest, and Greensleep mattresses.  We were very impressed with the quality as well as the knowledge of the salesperson (and the lack of sales pitch).  We are leaning towards the Bella Sera Nove 3.  My husband has back problems, is primarily a back sleeper and likes a firmer mattress, and I have neck problems, am mostly a side sleeper and like a slightly softer mattress.  We didn't much like the pillow topper, and felt that the extra $800 wasn't worth it--rather get a mattress that has a soft top layer to begin with.   Our current mattress is also natural, a Viviteque.  It sucks, the quality is bad, and we are more than ready to replace it!  We are also looking at iComfort mattresses and Tempurpedics for comparison.  The Bella Sera, also...

latex mattress for toddler -- what should I be looking for? - sleepymama

Hello all,

I'd love to get some advice about what to look for in a latex mattress for my daughter. She's 2 years old, weighs maybe 25 pounds, and we're ready to transition out of the crib. We have a twin bed slatted bed frame already, so now it's just a question of what to put on top of that. I'm definitely keen on being as green as possible, but I do have a budget (who doesn't?) -- so now that I've recovered from sticker-shock (and after reading some of the more inspirational threads on here) I'm thinking that a more DIY approach is the way to go.

I’m particularly intrigued by this 3” topper on sale at the Arizona Mattress Company: http://www.mattresses.net/3-twin-natural-latex-mattress-pad.html (100% Dunlop, 25 ILD)

I just spoke with someone there and his suggestion was to use the topper by itself...
