I just have a couple of comments to make:

1.  I don't think you have to worry about a Hastens topper of horsehair and wool sleeping hot.

2.  If you are wanting as "natural" a bed as possible, I would be concerned about glue being used in the Hastens spring system - glues do off-gas....

I didn't write any of the prices down.  I was in a bit of a hurry when I was there.  I recall he Atlas and Nefeli mattresses were each around $2700 for a King.  I think the Iviskos topper was around $1400. The bases they sell seemed extremely expesnive, but I have a platform bed.

The mattresses seemed comfortable in the short time I was on it.  I plan to go back when I have more time in order to get the full details.  I'll share any info I get when I do..

The layers of latex in the mattress aren't very thick, as you can see in the pictures on their website.   (http://www.coco-mat.com/web/en/product/mattresses/atlas).  Not sure how this relates to the overall comfort or longevity of the mattress.  I'm not a very heavy person (M, 5'7", 145), so maybe it's not an issue..

I guess they make mattresses out of just about everything.   Not sure how well it sleeps, but I am sure it is expensive.

Anyway, sorry someone else mentioned this company (coco-mat) in another thread.  I was quite interested in it, really just from the standpoint that it is all natural materials and completely unique.  I wonder what the pricing and comfort is like.

Interesting, thanks for the link.  I found their crib mattress on amazon, and they weren't too expensive, comparatively.

Now that I've started ... I may as well add a few more ideas as "food for thought".

The fundamental difference between materials (besides durability or their ability to maintain their qualities) is in the combination of their ild (softness), their resilience (ability to push back), and their "support factor" (how progressively resistance changes as you sink in deeper into a "layer"). All of these combined are what I am calling "response curve"

Memory foam for example can have exactly the same ild as a soft latex ... but it's other qualities are VERY different. It will "keep sinking" more in response to body heat/pressure when other materials that are not as sensitive to heat will "stop the sinking in process" ... and it's ability to push back is very limited. This is why it requires layers underneath that are BOTH a higher ild and have...

OK, the way I see it you have several choices.

First of all, for a mattress core (the part on the bottom that supports you)

you could choose either Latex ... fairly firm because of the weight it will be carrying

or you could choose a good innerspring with thick springs (I wouldn't go to anything above 13 point something guage)

Next I would strongly suggest that the sides of the mattress be re-inforced. This means either stronger springs along the edge or some type of strong foam along the edges. The reason for this is that it will prevent the edges of the mattress from compressing and will give you more useable room

Next the comfort layers middle to top

I would absolutely avoid memory foam in your...

I have read so many different opinions here and seen so many different approaches and levels of success with finding sleeping solutions that I thought I would try to sort of "systematize" the process and add some of my thoughts to the mix. I realize that everything here is simply opinion but FWIW.

It seems to me that if you look at all the experiences here, there are really 5 main components to getting to "your" best decision.

These are 1. Initial feel, 2. comfort and pressure relief, 3. Spinal alignment and support, 4. quality and durability and 5. Price and value. Each of these areas will of course affect the others but you can eliminate some of the confusion in finding a mattress by knowing specifically what you are looking for in each of these areas and knowing why different materials and methods have different...
