Just want to add that latex is not for everybody. some love it and some do not. I have major spine issues and must have an innerspring base. If you are a person who needs that, look into the companies that use the holland maid coil system, the best offset coil system out there. very high coil count, great support. On the East coast it is used by Beckley, Shifman and in the gold bond innerspring mattresses. steel gauge is 12.5 or 12.75, ie very strong. You can also get that gauge in the Stearns and Foster top of the line limited edition mattresses, but they are only made in queen and king sizes. the last option to get this gauge is king koil extended life line of mattresses, made for heavier people. Once you have that base, you can add a top layer of memory foam or latex with...

you are second shopper who has come on this board and ended up with a simmons, even though most posters caution against that brand. most of their mattresses are now made with 14 or 15 gauge coil. they do use a lot of them, but the weakness of the steel itself tells you these are going to be soft mattresses. the brands recommended above - beckley and shifman - use the holland maid open offset 12 3/4 gauge coil. they are expensive, but if you watch craigslist you can sometimes find one new or almost new for half price or lower. shifman makes some models with a 12.5 guage, even firmer. at that firmness a side sleeper would need a soft topper, but you would have the support. there are some smaller companies and many many local mattress makers who make firm offset coil mattresses. I have posted a few...
Sealy Embody Memory Foam - amysue30

Hi

Does anyone have any experience with the Sealy Embody memory foam mattresses?  I am looking at a Shifman Renoir, but was impressed by the feel of the Sealy that I looked at today. I do not like Tempurpedic, so I have shied away from anything like them.  Thoughts?

I spoke to someone about my mattress yesterday and he said that it is a zoned mattress.  The other two were supposed to be zoned as well.  One difference between this one and the others is that it now has a pocket coil system and more latex with a layer of memory foam as well.  Maybe that is the difference that I am feeling.  Perhaps I will check Bed Bath and Beyond for some kind of topper to try, since they are returnable should I decide to ditch this bed.  The money loss does not make me happy, but I think that a good night's sleep is extremely important. That said, how does everyone feel about Shifman? I may go and look at them to see if one is even an option.

Need a new mattress--help! - amysue30

Hi

I am hoping someone can give me guidance about buying a new mattress.  First let me say that I just discovered this forum and am so glad to have found a resource for mattress information.  I would rather buy a used car at this point :)  I am on my 3rd replacement Kingsdown mattress. The first two were body systems in green and had latex toppers. After 6 months or so they developed massive ditches and were labeled defective by Kingsdown. They just sent me my third one, which is a series 800 and it is so firm that I am waking up with my shoulder and arm numb.  I've had it for three days and have yet to have a good night's sleep. The place I bought it at (not Sleepy's) does not carry any other brand, so I either get another Kingsdown or bite the...

Shifman is on my list but they don't have any dealer here in Vancouver, BC.

As an update, last night I ended up buying a Shifman Saturn at Stickley, Audi & Company.  Funny thing about how the pricing game on mattresses has the potential to backfire, when I was shopping for bedroom sets I had looked at Stickley (was beautiful, but out of my price range) and my wife and I saw a price tag on a mattress on the display and was shocked to see a 5 figure pricetag on a mattress... Even with the multiplier stickley was using on their furniture, the price was still obscene, so I just had that pricing in mind as I started this whole search.  From my research I really decided that was the type of mattress I wanted, a high quality innerspring mattress that could be flipped and had no PU foam… but remembering the price tag I had seen, wasn’t about to look there again.  As...
Newbie questions. Keetsa & Sultan Laxeby - XJGPN

Hi,

I’m a newbie but have been doing lots of research the last few weeks so I have a “little” bit of knowledge now on this subject.  I was wondering about the lack of reviews on the Keetsa mattresses?  I saw them mentioned here:

http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/stearns-foster-luxury-firm-too-soft-gah-what-are-my-options/14293-21-1.html

So being from NY I stopped by to take a look at the Keetsa Latex as it really sounded like what I was looking for.  (Nothing fancy, just an innerspring mattress with better quality materials than the “S” Brands, but without getting into Shifman/Hästens pricing).  Unfortunately, their latex/innerspring mattress was way too soft… but I really liked the feel of their Tea Leaf Dream and their Tea Leaf Classic which are innerspring with a claimed “Memory Foam”.  Their “Memory Foam” doesn’t really feel like most memory foams.  It feels between the...
