There are actually 2 companies that go by that name:  http://www.themattressfactory.com/Home.aspx

and   http://originalmattress.com/

They seem to have similar lines of mattresses and products but I'm not sure how or if they are related.  Maybe an ex-employee or ....?

I have purchased one of each of the latex line from the 2nd company.  We are fairly happy with them although they have a thin layer of poly foam just under the cover but so far the mattresses have held up fine.  They are a good company to buy from and they have coil spring mattresses as well.  Their prices are good.  The first company is where Phoenix purchased his but he's no longer posting here.  He did a lot of research and had them custom build a latex mattress for him.  Last we heard, he was very happy with it.  I wouldn't hesitate to at...

I have a friend, male, who is 6'2" or 6'3" and weighs over 400 lbs but not many scales can weigh him, exactly.  He has an Original Mattress Factory, Orthopedic Extra Firm, with the double row of foam cylinders for edge support.  He says it's the only thing that suooprts his weight ans holds up well.  He bought it as mattress + box spring set in 2007.     When I checked with OMF last Fall and again in March 2011, they told me that they don't offer the double row of foal edge supports, it's just a single row now, due to not wanting to flammability-test it.   I take that to mean that the double row probably didn't pass or won't pass, so now thwy sell only a single row or no additional edge support.  That set runs around $900 or something.  The prices are posted on their web site.   The...

I was thinking about that firm 6" mattress from FBM for the support layer. With my weight, will it shorten it's life a lot? And I've never tried any latex bed yet. But I've been told that, with my weight, this is the way to go for longevity of the matress.

My experience with the FBM latex has been it's much firmer than I imagined from just reading about it. You're talking about making a long term investment so it would be worth your time to gauge what feels too soft or too firm in a latex mattress as this is always subjective.  Do you have a custom mattress shop nearby where you could try some latex beds?   It's difficult to...

I went in to a local store and found out that the other Original Mattress Factory is out of Texas. The salesman was very informative and not at all pushy. My husband and I went into another local store and the salesman was also very informative. Both gave some of the same info, but I learned new things at both stores.

We are leaning towards the Orthopedic Eurotop --- or the latex foam on the Leggett&Platt adjustable base.

If anybody has either model and can offer feedback, I love to read it.

Thank you!

I recently purchased from OMF (originalmattress.com). I purchased the Orthopedic Ultra Firm to replace an 11 year old cratered mattress. http://www.originalmattress.com/orthopedic/comfort-choices#orthopedic_ultra_firm  I do like it and the lower back pain I was experiencing is going/has gone away. That said, I am planning to add a topper of some sort to it as I do side sleep some and as expected, the ultra firm is firm. Now, it's only 10 days old so I can't tell you how it's going to hold up over the course of a few years :>

In addition to the purchase price + tax, I paid a $38 delivery fee and $10 removal fee for my old set.

Need to add a topper to my new mattress - suggestions? - texasniteowl

Hello everyone. I am new to the forums but have browsed a little bit. However, it's a little bit overwhelming :>

I have recently, last weekend!, replaced an 11 year old mattress that had definite cratering, with a new firm spring mattress.  (Original Mattress Factory Orthopedic Ultra Firm - queen).

The good news is that the lower back pain that I had been experiencing just getting out of bed does seem better so far.  The bad news is I think a bit of cushioning is needed.  I am a restless sleeper...have always tossed and turned and changed positions.  I do seem to end up sleeping on my side (and sometimes stomach) a fair bit and this is where the Ultra Firm could use a little help. But at least the crater is gone (and honestly I should have replaced the mattress at least a year ago.)

Thanks for your response, Sandman. The Cloud is like a mattress (at least what I think of when I think mattress) that is sewn, with the corded edges (don't know exactly what that may be called), not zippered, so I can't look inside unless I start taking it apart. I've thought about doing that to see what it looks like. Perhaps the polyester was like a batting that wrapped around the latex?

Do you just look at the innerspring and box spring to see if they look to be sagging? Our bed frame does have the middle (5th) leg. It's a queen-sized bed.

My husband and I went to Original Mattress Factory. We were impressed to see what everything looks like inside. We liked the Orthopedic Premier Super Pillowtop and the Latex Foam (both flippable mattresses, which I would prefer to get, thinking it would last...

orangeknight -- did you ever find a similar mattress to your Ther-a-pedic Award Series - Bronze edition? Almost no one makes flippable innerspring mattresses anymore and most of them are expensive. The Original Mattress Factory (originalmattress.com) in Minneapolis, MN, still makes them for a reasonable price but the shipping adds lots more cost if you don't live near one of their stores. I just bought a twin mattress at the mid to lower end for about $200 at one of their stores. The quality is definitely worth it, IMO. One week after that, I saw a box spring, mattress, and steel frame relatively unused for $75 and I just brought it home. It is the exact same Ther-a-pedic that you referred to in your post and it truly is a firm mattress. I don't know how old it is but Im hoping my daughter will get several years of use...
