All memory foam mattress sets are going to sleep warmer than an inner spring mattress with no memory foam. Memory foam is a temprature sensitive foam and it changes the compression of the foam itself according to temprature. So as you lay on a memory foam mattress it absorbs your body heat to soften up and conform to your body. Once you find the right comfort level for you they are great for circulation and as circulation improves you will also feel warmer. This is the nature of memory foam and dont fall for the Gel and cool fabric marketing. Gel is a negitiave as it fills the open cells of memory foam and reduces the breathability of the foam which over time will also make it warmer.

Sorry, I have you confused with another poster as far as the job details go.

As for your returned mattresses, over $1300 in return fees makes your Tempurpedic pretty pricey at well over $3K (for a twin?) That is not chicken scratch in anyone but a very well off persons view. You obviously also live in a large metro area where you have access to very large chain stores who have very liberal return policies. Many people do not. Plus, you live in a state that allows returns. If you did not, how much would that TP have cost by now, about $5K?

The $1300 loss was due to this -...

And why should I not use a platform? Talk to TP and see if they say its OK or not. Oh, that's right, I did and they say it is just fine. In fact, they said a platform is just about the best thing you can do as it is a solid, unflexing surface.

As I said, the 12" didn't work, which is why it is going back. I also said, only a fool would put down $2K for an 8" piece of foam.

So you returned the base. You have also stated previously that you have gone thru 5 other mattresses in a short time frame before you bought the TP (or at least bought the hype) How much...

Me, sell mattresses for a living?  Never.

4 mattresses tried, one kept.  First one cost me nothing.  From a local maker, got full refund.  2nd mattress, the Stearns and Foster cost nothing.  Third one, a mistake in policy ended up costing $1300 ouch.  4th mattress the SleepEZ cost a mere $66 to return.  5th one is a keeper.

Sounds like you may have been hurting for awhile! I slept on pocketed coils for several years (I am lazy and do not want to go through the motions of switching out layers and trial and error... mainly because I do not have the time to do so and do not experience any major issues over the last several years) and have slept well withou paying the high prices in the $2k+ range.

I have also sold pocketed coils in Serta, Sealy, Stearns & Foster and Simmons. They each have very specific profiles on feel and there are some companies in the NorthWest that can help you custom fit the sleep system to your needs. In order to not sell myself, I will refrain from listing my company here, but if your salesperson or consultant does not walk you through a series of questions concerning you and your pain(s),...

Thanks, I live in San Francisco.  And yes, I'm looking into some of the local mattress places.

Hard to know whether to condemn all latex in all mattresses.  I only know that my 20+ year old mattress was never too warm, and I kind of doubt it contained latex, but who knows.

I just get the feeling that these new, mile-high synthetic "luxury" mattresses are problematic.  And now I'm nervous about ALL of them.

And it's not just the over-heating issue...the mattress has a wierd feel to it, in general.

One of the posters here wrote about how the S&F latex mattress (or maybe any latex mattress?) creates a "pushback" sensation.  Bingo!  As I lay awake at 2AM last night, I was painfully...

I have been in the mattress industry about 5 years and like some of my colleagues (definitely not all) I find much more joy in having fewer exchanges and a greater number of phone calls from my clients 2-3 months after purchase saying, "I really am sleeping so much better! Thank-you!" To get to this point in my Sleep Consultant career, here is my method (which you should expect to take you 45 - 90 minutes depending on your needs, issues, differences of opinion between you and your partner, finances, etc.

  • Triple Choice - Most mainstream stores set up beds in three's. A Firm, a Soft or Medium and a Pillow-Top. Finding which of these three you like best will help you eliminate 2/3 of the...

But I am back to comment on this Latex thread.

First, hardly anyone seems to mention that the Latex seems to sleep HOT.  I know, I know, it's not supposed to...only Memory Foam is hot.                                                                     But I am absolutely convinced that our new S&F  Latex bed is much warmer than previous, old mattress.  True, it has a pillowtop -- and I suspect that is part of the problem.                 But I also think the Latex itself is an issue -- it doesn't breathe.   What do the experts/salespeople have to say about this?  Better yet, what do actual buyers have to say?            Because I don't trust anyone in the industry.

I also think the Latex...

I posted recenlty about a Stearns & Foster purchased at Costco and informed the original poster that that particular foam bed was actually a name added to a Kirkland Brand bed... not even made at, near or by the Stearns company (which is owned by Sealy). that might be your issue. The other part of the plushness (as stated by another responder) is the more layers of material to make the bed soft, the farther in you sink. The farther in you sink, the warmer you will be.

Latex (atleast here  in America) is difficult because we Americans like softer, more plush, etc (think about how big the idea of a pillow top was for so many years) or we onlythink about "firmer is better for your back" which is inherently incorrect.

Topper suggestions for firm inner coil mattress - dbishere

About six months ago, I purchased a Stearns and Foster Estate Monet's Garden Luxury Firm mattress from Macy's. This mattress was the most comfortable mattress that I have owned. A few months after I had bought it, the side started bulging, and after a few more months it started to make the mattress slope to the side. I had the mattress inspected and the inspector said that the mattress should be replaced under warranty. When Macy's talked to me about replacing it, they said that this particular mattress was not in production anymore, and that a mattress called "Estate Isabel Luxury Firm" is what has replaced it. I received the mattress yesterday and it is firmer than what we had before. It feels like the new mattress has less padding on top of the coils.

Instead of trying to get Macy's to replace it with another mattress that...
