Cloud9, I agree with you that the 2-sided mattress that can be flipped over is being replaced by the no-flip mattress so the customers will have to replace mattresses more often. I agree that it is best to tweak your own layers and change toppers when they wear out or change layers when comfort needs change. I like the idea of the Kings Down Mattress with the zippered pillow top that can be replaced or latex kit mattresses or buying the firmest mattress and buying comfort layer toppers for it that can be replaced....

No-flip mattresses are the latest gimmick manufacturers use to limit the life of a mattress and force you to buy a new one much sooner than you would have to with a high quality double-sided mattress. No-flip mattresses feature an innerspring unit with several layers of foam--usually cheap low density PU and sometimes visco of unknown density on one side of the springs only, all of which quicky compress and soften to the point where the mattress is no longer comfortable.
I would absolutely agree that 2-sided mattresses are preferable to the no-flip variety. What you should look for is a sturdy innerspring unit made with heavy gage coils and as little built-in padding as possible. It's better to add you own comfort layers which can be tweaked, changed or added to any time your needs change without replacing the mattress....

Sometimes stores don't recommend something because they don't offer it in their product line and want to discourage you from going somewhere else. Many manufacturers are now combining springs with quality foams like latex. What would really be nice is if they would combine them in a modular concept so you could swap layers out and fine tune the sleep surface. BeddyBye, I'm still jealous!...

I just saw some reviews for Verlo mattresses at Epinions.com. Some were fine, but I also noticed some bad reviews, too. You might want to check it out....

I checked out their website and they look like nice beds! I like the fact that they have 2-sided mattresses. Myself, I've never heard of Verlo, but that's just because we don't have them where I live. I would definitely consider one of these mattresses if I were you. I noticed they seem to use quality materials.
You might try Googling to see if anyone else has anything to say about Verlo. Good luck!

The SmartBase steel foundation will replace the rails and slats of the bed as well as the box spring. I'm concerned about the height because my Mom's current mattress is about 8" thick and the "box spring" (it's actually just more foam) is about 8" thick and 8" off the floor. That makes 24"....

I have looked on there some there is not too much on 2 sided matts vs 1 sided matts or no flip. I was just asking if any one knew. I thought that is what this mattress site is for. I read on there and they had good and bad about all mattress kinds. About verlo it self there were just a few and nothing to really help point me in any direction....

I changed this because of another post from another person. No I am not a sales man I got that bed thought it was great but we ended up not liking it in the long run. But they gave us the chance to switch it or a refund. They offer a 60 day test peroid where they will rebuid the bed for us at no charge. We did just jump in to buying this with out looking around. So we decided to look around on the internet to see what people had to say. I guess we jumped the gun on posting on there. So I wanted to find out what others thought. I saw a lot on here about latex beds and since they had this bed I talked about I wanted peoples unbiased thoughts on verlo. We do like this one so far but we are not going to post on another site...
