update feb 14th we recieved the new piece of 2 inch 4lb memory foam, and .. my wife liked it...but it seemed to bottom out on my side, plus the lago is already getting a pretty good size dip where my hips are, i blame it on all the 2 inches of wool that OMI uses, dewey at flobeds warned me about this being a problem with OMI but thick headed as i am.. and more is better has proven out to be not such a good idea. anyway we are flipping the lago to the xxxfirm side and are going to try building the 21 one inch then the 19 one inch then the 2 inches of 4 lb memory foam. we just tried the memory foam directly on top of the medium side of the lago last night so tonight we...
Re: New member... question about "solid" non-stacker mattresses from Habitat and SleepEZ - Ganderson

Thanks guys.
You make excellent points and I am convinced the kit is the way to go... my wife will come around I believe.
Her apprehension towards a kit "stacker" mattress is actually my fault. You see, a couple of years ago when our hand-me-down Simmons became unusable I got the idea (from the internet) to fashion my own "cheaperpedic" DIY mattress and did so using layers of HD36, LUX, and memory foam.
Though it has always slept hot, it was ok for a while and has degraded to an unbearable level in the last year, so chalk one up in the "fail" column for my DIY attempt.
She understandably has kind of a "oh no... not another piece together mattress" attitude.
Flobeds keeps getting mentioned and they look to have an excellent product....

I personally would try to determine WHY you are having the issues you are having which will give you a much better idea of where to go next. If you can remember the layering schemes you have tried and what happened with each it may be possible to "fix" what you have now. Failing that even a bit of experimentation with what you have could give you very valuable information about what is suitable for you in any kind of mattress. Playing with exchanges without knowing the effect every exchange will have on every other layer of your mattress often leads to the kind of frustration (and pain) you are experiencing now. While soft over medium over firm is a very common construction and is sometimes the safest "approximation", it is not always the best.
It sounds to me like you are a fairly "wild" sleeper and the...
HELP building DIY mattress with 3" latex over 6" Poly foam base or just get 6" latex - peclark
Jan 12, 2011 10:38 AM
Hi, I am 40 and 6'2" and about 190 lbs. I equally sleep on back and skid and like a firm mattress and have lower back problems. I don't have disc, etc. problems but my muscles get fatigued very easily when doing any activity and they will also go out and spasm easily. I don't have much selection in my area, I liked the extra firm Simmons beautyrest at couple of stores. This weekend I plan on going to Minneapolis to try some all latex in dunlop and taladay.
I am using a queen waterbed foundation and right now using a 5" extra firm Poly base that is from JCpenney and an old 6 inch Poly foam mattress my parents had which is surprisingly still in decent shape. I like the feeling of sleeping on foam and like feeling of the tempurpedic beds and all latex bed...

hi sadman
yea we did try putting the latax under the memory foam but we needed something firmer and the wife didnt care for the springy latex so we went with the hd foam but now we are just back to putting the memory foam on top of the firm side of the lago and it seems to working just fine. we are now using the 2 inch 5 pound memory foam that we got from select foam.com and are comparing to the stuff we got at amazon and it seems that the selectfoam stuff doesnt get as warm and by morning it is still really supportive, im not saying the amazon stuff isnt good . it is , just seems the select foam memory foam seems to be working better ... we will see how it holds up to long term. for now the bed is perfect. ...

Sorry to read about these troubles. Maybe if you work exclusively with the salesmen who are telling you they will give you another exchange....Let us know how it turns out, please!
They've already denied a refund on the exchange because the original mattress was purchased over 30 days ago.
This mattress is pressure relieving for sure, but I'm skeptical about spine support. My neck doesn't hurt, but when I turn my head, I can hear my neck is not totally smooth. Sure seems like my pillow is fine. My pillow is a Tempurpedic Symphony which I've used for 3 years with no problems. My head doesn't seem up to high. It seems like maybe my hips are sunk in...

You're not alone. I'm pretty rail thin and have had a hell of a time lately, but I'm learning. I think Tempurpedic might be some of the most pressure relieving out there. It is a very popular brand. I don't think they are a bunch of marketing shysters. The places they are sold have liberal return policies, so they would be returned if they stunk (pun intended!). The issue of toxic foam .... I don't have an answer for that. I would personally sleep on a Temurpedic. I used a TP symphony pillow for years and never had a problem.
I have a lot of years on innerspring, 4 weeks on an iComfort memory foam bed and 1 1/2 weeks on an all latex bed.
About the all latex. Well, it is not popular in stores. Each store has maybe one or two models of latex...

If you are already "hammocking" in bed, any topper you buy will just make it worse. I your lower back is hurting you first have to determine if your mattress is too stiff, or not supportive enough. If it is too stiff your hips will cock at an angle to let you midriff touch the mattress. If you don't have enough support your butt sinks lower and your whole spine takes a curve. Have somebody look at your back while resting on your side. Your shoulders and hips should be square to the bed and your spine at your butt almost level with the spine at your shoulder. Once you find mattresses that are close to that ideal, choose the most comfortable one. The most common mistake is that people find a soft mattress that lets their hips sink too far. This feels comfortable for a short time but causes...
