Black Friday and Mattresses? - admin
Nov 25, 2013 6:03 AM
Every year, millions and millions of Americans eagerly anticipate Black Friday and the doorbuster sales that come with it.  For some, the savings end up being the difference between a big Christmas and a regular Christmas.  A new trend we are seeing this year is many major retailers opening on Thanksgiving day.  We are deeply saddened by this (but that is for another article).

Black Friday sales tend to be on cool, but not brand new, electronics and other easily gifted stuff.  Should we intrepid mattress shoppers be left out of this festive shopping time?  We often are and it probably has something to do with the personal nature of mattresses.  When was the last time you wrapped a mattress up and put it under the tree?

Sure, BF is not a major mattress holiday, but there are a couple...

Thanks for the recommendation on Gardner. I bought a new mattress but with a money-back guarantee, so if I don't like it Gardner will be my next stop.

Lori, I did a lot of research online and noticed that reviews were all over the place and they are not properly organized (almost impossible to find by specific mattress, even the consumer reports specific mattresses in the most recent review are not available anymore since companies re-name mattresses, etc). After looking at several review websites and Consumer Reports, I ended up just looking at the highest rated brands in consumer reports. They wait some period of time after the consumer purchases the mattress, maybe 1 year but I don't recall. The top 3 in terms of overall satisfaction were tempurpedic, sleep number, and the original mattress factory (don't remember the order), based on thousands of reviews by discerning customers....

Confused - looking for recommendations on mattresses - inquisitive

I have been using a Slumber 1 iCoil Mattress-In-A-Box from Wal-Mart (which someone here recommended) for 4.5 years and it is now worn out in the middle and I started having severe back pain. It only has one side (I cannot turn it over) and I think it was a mistake to have ever purchased it. I am going to sleep on the floor until I get a new mattress and am looking for recommendations.

I generally sleep on my back and am of normal height and weight. I am willing to pay up to several thousand, maybe more if I can pay over time, but not more than $10,000 (saw a thread here about a $35,000 mattress!). I would like something that feels incredible and also that I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and without any back pain (granted, I don't usually have back pain,...

Latex Mattress advice for first time buyer - Katydid
Apr 18, 2014 11:22 AM
I've decided to purchase the S-scape and because of allergies (and hopes of greater comfort) am planning to purchase a latex mattress for the first time.  Any advice is welcome.

Does anyone have experience with the latex mattress sold with the S-scape at the Original Mattress Factory?  Here are the specs:  http://www.originalmattress.com/serenity/overview  I'm concerned because you MUSt purchase their mattress with their bed.  They seem to be the only S-cape dealer locally, though other Leggett and Platt models are available from others.

The Richmond online site also has a latex mattress they carry to go with the S-scape.  http://www.richmondbedding.com/certi-pur-us-latex-mattress/

mattress build 5yr update - Latkat
Sep 14, 2015 10:37 AM
Hello all,

I  built this mattress 3/10. Ive gone through a few changes since, but its been interesting.

Original build:

From bottom to top

4" Lux-HQ foam from: Foam factory

3"blended raw talalay latex : Sleepez.com ("Med"30-32 ILD)

2"blended raw talalay latex : Sleepez.com ("soft" 19-20 ILD)

This felt good for a short time, then felt to hard.

After a  while I added 3" of pure comfort(Nova form) memory foam via costco, and a cuttle bed topping , also from costco

At this time, I rated the bed as acceptable.

Now the really interesting part:

In april 2014 I had partial...

Re: Dilemma with replacing Sealy Collamore w/a Sealy Embody. Help! - tommygun715

Greetings!  It's been quite sometime since me or anyone has commented on this post.  So I thought I would chime back in and give you an update on my 'Sealy Embody Insightful' king size mattress.

I've had this mattress since early 2011 as a result of a warrantly claim I filed to replace a "junk" Sealy Collamore/Reflexion foam mattress. Sealy quit maunufacturing the Collamore to what I believe was due to so many complaints and warranty claims against it.  So the Embody replaced the Collamore.  I was one of very few Collamore owners who actually was successful in filing a warranty claim (due to severe sagging in the middle). So the Embody was a welcomed mattress and it seemed much better at first, for about a year. It was quite a bit lighter, it had great support, there was no sagging, and was quite comfortable. So all was well...

And then there were three (latex manufacturers that is) - charnlar

After doing research both throughout this forum and outside, I have come to focus on three manufacturers ( in each case, I am looking at an all natural latex king size mattress, all approximately 12" in depth):

FloBed - Organic Natural vZone ($300 upcharge from the Organic Natural Deluxe)- 2 cores/vZone core/convoluted topper/cover

Dremata (aka Green Mattress Factory) - Symphony (no upcharge for its 5zone layer) - 4 rearrangeable 3" latex layers one of which can be it's zoned layer

PlushBeds - Botanical Bliss - 6" core layer, a 3" layer and a 2" layer plus a one inch layer of wool in the mattress cover.

In choosing these three brands and models, I attempted to set the stage allowing an "apples to apples" comparison.  Also, there is no one within a 100 mile radius of my location selling...

Latex mattress making me sick, please help!! - khilgenberg

My story:

I purchased my first latex mattress a week ago from a local and very reputable factory direct latex mattress store in Phoenix, AZ. I had been wanting a latex mattress for years and have been researching and fully educating myself on all aspects of latex mattress for the past couple months. I tested all kinds of latex mattress in the store before purchase and also went to 2 other competitor stores. I felt comfortable with the Otex certifications of both the blended talalay and the nature talalay. I went with blended talalay with three 3 inch layers in a king size. The company I purchased the mattress from was top notch and I still feel fully confident they are a great and reputable latex mattress company

When the mattress was delivered I decided to help them assemble the mattress and latex layers. A while after they left I felt my...

I have a friend, male, who is 6'2" or 6'3" and w?ighs over 400 lbs but n?t many scales can weigh him, exactly. He has an Original Mattress Factory, Orthopedic Extra Firm, with the double r?w of foam cylinders for edge support. He says it's the only thing that suooprts his weight ans holds up well. He bought it as mattress + box spring set in 2007. When I checked with OMF last Fall and again in March 2011, they told me that they don't offer the double row of foal edge supports, it's just a single r?w now, due to not wanting to fl?mmability-test it. I take that to mean that the double row probably didn't pass or won't pass, so now thwy sell only a single row or no additional edge support. That set runs around $900 or...
