Going to the Mattresses - How to cut through the marketing gimmicks of Sealy, Serta, and the rest.

Here's a fun game I play. First, I walk into a mattress store and ask what's on sale. Then, I throw my hands in the air and shout along with the salesman, "EVERYTHING'S ON SALE!!!!" Oh how we laugh, the salesman and I. And while he's still chuckling, I turn around and walk out, because I fricking hate mattress salesmen.

Is there a more maddening industry? They confuse us with silly product names (the Sealy Posturepedic Crown Jewel Fletcher Ultra Plush Pillowtop or the Sealy Posturepedic Crown Jewel Brookmere Plush?). They flummox us with bogus science ("pocketed coils"? "Microtek foundations"? "Fiberlux"?). And they weigh us down with useless features (silk damask ticking?). It's like buying a used car, and almost as expensive—I've seen mattresses going...
Sealy PosturepedicHybrid mattress - elizapt

I've been shopping for a new mattress (mine is at least 12 yrs old). Thought about Sleep Number and Tempurpedic but what I think I've settled on is a Sealy Posturpedic Hybrid which is half titanium coils and half memory foam with the cooling gel. It is very comfy in the store. I've chosen the firm one because I don't like the ultra plush pillow top stuff, too soft, especially when sitting in bed to read. But the mattress seems like the best of both worlds to me.

Questions: Has anyone else bought one of these? They are brand new with 25 yr. guarantee of replacement with 3/4 " dent or more.

Also, both stores I have been too they tell me that I MUST buy a mattress cover (150.00) that will keep out spills, dust mites etc because without one the warranty...

Great board! We are going to buy a mattress from our local mattress shop and have a budget of less than a grand.  The 2 mattresses we are looking at are about the same price but one is gel and the other spring.  How do we decide?

Compare Sealy Mattresses Barrett Court III Vs Sedgebrooke. - getzjd@yahoo.com

I am trying to decide between the King Sealy Posturepedic Plus Sedgebrook plus pillow top from Mattress Firm http://www.mattressfirm.com/sealy-posturepedic-plus-sedgebrooke-16-plush-pillow-top-mattress.aspx and the Sealy Posturepedic Plus Barrett Court III from us-mattress.com . http://www.us-mattress.com/sealy-pp-barrett-court-pl-ept.html

From what I can tell, these two sure seem like the same mattress. The only difference I see is that the Sedgebrooke states "Gel Latex coresupport center" and the Barrett states "CoreSuppor tcenter w/ gel memory foam"

What, if any, difference is there? With taxes, it is about a $500 difference in price and US-Mattress.com lets you swap out a mattress free during the 100 days whereas Mattress Firm wants to charge to do this.

Thanks in advance. ...
