Black Friday and Mattresses? - admin
Nov 25, 2013 6:03 AM
Every year, millions and millions of Americans eagerly anticipate Black Friday and the doorbuster sales that come with it.  For some, the savings end up being the difference between a big Christmas and a regular Christmas.  A new trend we are seeing this year is many major retailers opening on Thanksgiving day.  We are deeply saddened by this (but that is for another article).

Black Friday sales tend to be on cool, but not brand new, electronics and other easily gifted stuff.  Should we intrepid mattress shoppers be left out of this festive shopping time?  We often are and it probably has something to do with the personal nature of mattresses.  When was the last time you wrapped a mattress up and put it under the tree?

Sure, BF is not a major mattress holiday, but there are a couple...
Re: First post. Building a FBM mattress. Latex over memory foam? - shovel99

Hi,

First welcome and good luck in finding what works.  Most of what I read online indicates that nearly half of reviewers don't like their mattresses, and it is indeed a smarmy industry of hiding the names and facts to avoid price competition.

I bought and tried no fewer than 26 mattresses over the course of five years and tried a wide variety of toppers of latex and memory foam.  I am perhaps 75% side sleeper, 25% back/flip flop restless, age 62 male, 165 pounds, 6'.  I injured my back several years ago and that has likely prevented me from finding the "perfect" bed.  I have thrashed around with this so long that my wife and I sleep in separate rooms.... "most" of the time... and because we are both restless sleepers, get much better sleep this way.

Quick hits:  Memory foam even if...

Thanks for your clarification.  Any information that keeps us better informed is great!

I think back to all the sleep setups I have slept on, and I just found better luck with the serta "perfect sleeper" with the continuous coil.  Without rehashing all my bedding experiences, suffice it to say that I believe consumers are becoming much more in the know about bedding choices, especially with latex and DIY setups.  It has become much easier for informed guys and gals to get into a good night's sleep without having to go to the furniture store and blindly pick something out, or worse, do a sleep number bed or a tempurpedic experiment only to find they have shelled out thousands of dollars on something they can't tolerate, much less even remove from the house!

You seemed to be a little confused about what is used in each brand uses as coil systems.

Serta uses the continous coil which in fact is the lightest spring unit in the industry using the least amount of steel. It does have a decent design and holds up fairly well depending on which unit you get. In their starting line they use the Bonnell coil.

Simmons individually pocketed coil system is great for motion transfer as it doesnt distribute your weight across the bed so you do give up some duarbility. You dont give up support, because you are sleeping on more coils in most Breauty Rest then you do on any other mattress. It just doesnt maintian that level of support as...

Best Mattress?? - bearrp3

I know that one mattress isnt for everyone so there no answer to whats the best mattress.

So here is my problem I bought a Symbol mattress for emergency reason (car accident ) was a good price, around $600 for set, at the time and felt really solid when testing it out compared to some of the higher end matresses. The warranty was a plus also for 10 years i figured maybe i would get atleast 4-5 out of it. but its been a year and a half and the middle sags from side to side. The costomer sevice has been a nightmare and decided it best for me to just buy a better new mattress.

I dont care about memory foam, pillow top, sleep numbers or anything fancy i just want something to last and not kill my back and hip from the...

Tempur-pedic Contour Signature has gone soft - drexacek
Mar 12, 2012 1:31 PM
My wife and I bought a contour signature tempurpedic on February 4th.

The first day or so I didn't like it and had to get used to it, but my wife loved it.  After day 2 through day 30 I loved it!!! perfect mixture of comfort.

Now it's killing me. My upper back to the base of my neck hurts every single morning. It seems the bed has gotten MUCH softer.

I'm mostly a side sleeper but sometimes sleep on my back or stomach.  the last few nights I tried sleeping completely on my back to no avail, stil hurts.

Any ideas?

Any one else experienced these beds going much softer?

any recommendations for replacement?

"Pillowtop-ectomy" advice for a newbie? - Warrigal

Hi everyone - I found this forum several weeks ago after I could no longer ignore the nightly beating my current mattress was giving me. WOW - you all are such a great resource, I only wish I had found this forum two years ago prior to my mattress purchase. Well, I've been making up for lost time and devouring threads on here for the last few weeks, exploring webpages for retail stores and online sources, and I think I'm finally ready to ask a few questions.

Background: very unfortunately for us, two years ago we paid about $1600 for a Serta Vera Wang "Toast" Eurotop "with latex" (queen). Body impressions were noticeable after a year or so but they have gotten progressively worse over the past year, with an uncomfortabely ridge in the middle. (Of course they're only an inch, and the warranty is...
My sleepies never ending nightmare...please help... - bigpauly33

I recently purchased a Dr. Breus mattress, what a joke. It was a floor model, I needed a mattress asap and they only had 3 in stock. I was told i was buying a $3,000 bed which I was only being charged $1,100 for.      I lasted 3 nights on that bed. I tried to return it but they wouldnt take it back because it was a floor model. They gave me a $400 credit only because I put up a fight and told them I was going to buy a more expensive bed somewhere else. Which leads me to my next purchase, the "Serta Perfect Sleeper Pillow Top". Which I payed $1,300 for. The bed started to sag whithin 3 weeks. I called sleepies and complained so they sent out an inspector to measure the dip. I was told it needed to be 1 1/2" but it was only an 1 1/4". The "inspector"...

The Serta perfect sleeper looks great but does not offer any support.  What you are looking for in a mattress is "support and alignment".  If you have the "hammock effect" and your lower back is below your head then your back will hurt from the weight.  When trying out a mattress you should ask yourself if you are aligned and supported.  If you would have had that in mind when you purchased the Perfect Sleeper you never would have gotten it.  There are over 300 mattress manufacturers in the USA.  You can probably only name about 5 of them.  Just because you can name the brand does not make it a better mattress.  As a matter of fact it makes it more expensive.  You should check alternatives by searching online for mattress stores in your area.  If you visit 3 of them (not the large national stores) you are bound to...
Re: Most Popular Mattress Right Now? - littleHercules

The Serta Perfect Sleepers are popular budget under $1,000 Mattresses. My wife and I got ours about a week ago and this mattress felt fantastic from day 1, we love it ! Felt exactly like the same mattress we laid on in the store, there was no breaking in time it felt great from day 1. My wife and I got ours about a week ago to replace a 40 year old Sealy that just was becoming too unbearable to sleep on. We paid about a total of $1,000 for the Mattress, Box Spring, Frame, Mattress cover, Delivery - setup & taking old mattress away. Although this is rated as a Medium Plush mattress I would rate it as 'very firm' compared to our old 40 year old mattress which is a good thing. The Serta Perfect Sleeper has a firmness rating of about a 6 and our old 40...
