After years.... finally found my magic! Simmons Nextgen 450MC Firm Hybrid +1inch 14 ILD Latex.. - shovel99

Calling Sandman and everyone else who was here 3 or 4 years ago......  ???  After 25 actual mattress purchases, severl iterations of mattress "surgery" and stacked layers of high denisty memory foam and latex, I gave up a few years ago and put a couple of layers of relatively soft high quality latex on a Simmons Beautyrest that escaped the factory with no comfort layer.  I could sleep on it but always got up in pain, just a little less pain than the 25 actual mattress purchases and home trials I subjected myself to.  My problem as a 60+ male was back injury and both a side sleeper with no muscle coverage any more... or back sleeper part of the time.  My wife calls me a "flipper" from back to side.  You need firm for back sleeper, conforming give to wrap around the hip and shoulder for side sleep.

I was also interested in the Black line, but when I checked macys.com the other day, the Black doesn't even come up on the site any longer.

Kinda made me wonder if Macy's is moving away from carrying the Black..?

I was just in Macy's today and the Black line is completely different than it was a month ago.  I don't have the specs, but it's definitely not the same bed at all.

"Box springs" typically refers to the foundation unit below the mattress unit, yes?

Being a Simmons, perhaps your mattress has individual coil springs?  I personally do not like these and wonder if it would be troublesome covering them with Latex.  But I suppose you can expect to replace existing foam with better foam.

Talalay Latex comfort layers range 1", 2", 3" and 6", and 19-32 ILD.

If you put 4-6" of foam on the existing 7.5 springs, you won't be reducing your mattress height, yes?

Be sure you know what has failed... the existing foam... the springs... or the box spring foundation below it all, if there is one.  Surgery can only fix the top comfort layers.

My Sleepy’s story is like so many of the other customer complaints that I feel responsible to provide you with other details and recommendations in hope that future consumers can avoid what so many others (including myself) have experienced when purchasing a mattress at Sleepy’s.

First our story:

We purchased a Simmons NxG mattress set from Sleepy’s in 2008. The total purchase price was over $3000.  Yes, $3000 - sleep is important to everyone and a basic essential to human health.  We felt this was an investment in ourselves, our health and well-worth the expense.

Yes, we had the same experience with delivery and mattress removal fees not being clear in the sale process.  We paid without squabbling because frankly, the mattress purchase process in the Sleepy’s store was enough of a game that we just wanted...

Gutting a Beautyrest Black mattress - help with latex surgery - plasma411

Hi all,

After a short 5 years, our Simmons Beautyrest Black Exquisite mattress has large sag spots where my wife & I sleep.  We've looked at new Latex Bliss mattresses and like them alot, then I came across the posts on Mattress Surgery and became curious.

The bed is basically a 12" mattress with about a 4.5" firm pillow top sewn on.  It's a real problem trying to find deep pocket sheets to fit!  After cutting a couple of inspection holes, it looks like the mattress is (from the bottom up), 7.5" of mattress springs, 2" of foam, 1" of foam, 1/2" of some cloth/mesh material.  The topper is foam with some latex in it.

We really like the feel of the Latex Bliss Entice (3.0 Hybrid) & Beautiful (Natural) mattresses and...

Help...we're looking to replace our current bed, and DH couldn't stand the feel of the latex or viscous foam beds. We tried this one in the store, and I admit it was extremely comfortable and seems like a good compromise. Got a really great price on it, too. But I can't find any reviews on how it holds up long-term (recognizing that its a new model). I know Simmons has a bad track record, but the bed was really comfy and felt perfect for us. Can anyone offer insight on this model? Thanks in advance...

New Mattress Dilemma - Innerspring/memory/latex - manny

We've been sleeping on the same old crappy cheap extra firm $99 4-5 inch foam mattress for Ikea for over 10yrs. Since we were young, we never noticed the difference. Now we are in our 30s and value our sleep more than ever and want to make sure we do it right. After visiting Raymour and Flanigan and Macy's and being hounded by the pushy salesman who make telemarkets look slick we are a bit confused to say the least. We tried iComforts, Beautyrests (Black series) that felt decent in the showroom and other Sealy/Simmons/Hotel Collection beds as well. We also tried a firm latex mattress. Lying there on a matress in a showroom for 5-10 minutes I feel is inadequate to judge durability, comfort down the line and quality, specially when those sales clowns are breathing down your neck. I've decide to turn to the internet. What we are...
Remove the pillow top from older Beautyrest? - twilee

I love this forum!

Has anybody has taken the pillow top off of an older Simmons beauty rest (not a black or world class) ? And do you know if the bed under the pillow top is sealed?
Ours is the Beautyrest Princeton park ultra plush pillow top 100 and we can't find specs or blueprints anywhere.

If we decide to go for it, and it is not sealed, do we just put a cloth over it and then the layers of new toppers?

The bed has held up well but we have deep impressions where we both typically sleep and now, if we can't fix it for a little more life, we will have to replace it (with a firm bed and toppers).

Thanks in advance!...
