In the market for a new mattress (king). Think we've settled on a latex foam. Tried out a model at Macy's that seemed quite comfortable and was hoping to get your opinion on it. Thanks in advance!

I'm no Einstein but 7 inches of poly foam doesn't sound like latex foam. Putting good latex on top of poly foam would seem to mean that when the 7 inches of poly foam starts sagging in about 9 months or so, the top layers of latex will sag too. Seems very expensive to me for 9 months worth of sleeping. You could buy some very nice all latex mattresses for that money. I think you have to have a good base to support latex, not some cheap poly foam. Without a good solid base, sleeping on top of only a couple of inches of latex make no sense to me. But then again, maybe I don't get it. Also, anything discounted that much must be way overpriced in the first place. I wouldn't touch it. There is a wealth of information on this forum. Thanks! Appreciate the quick and thorough response. Just getting my head around the latex foam stuff. Will keep looking around the forum. |
If you are looking for info on latex mattresses, I would start by reading this link: http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/my-mattress-arrived/15666-A-1.html There are many posts in this link and it may take some time but it might be worth it. It is mainly about his mattress and how he came to design and where he bought it. There are other places too and some of his other posts include recommendations on toppers and mattress stores on line. Flobeds, Sleepez and Custom Sleep Design are all respected latex places which have had many recommendations for latex. Make sure you click on "all" below the first question to make sure you see all the posts from the beginning. This thread by Phoenix is one of the most researched mattress purchases I have seen in over a year of reading this forum. Phoenix is no longer here but he left a wealth of information about latex and other mattresses. You can search for other threads of his if you search for "Phoenix". If you live in certain areas, he actually responded with lists of mattress stores where you could find good latex mattresses. For example, you could search for "Virginia" or "Texas", etc. Here is a sample post from Phoenix: http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/my-quest-new-mattress/16650-A-1.html This message was modified Mar 11, 2011 by Sall

I've checked out that mattress several times (trying out mattresses on my lunch break), and I really liked it. It's kinda firm, but that's my thing. Funny though, I always thought that it was ~99% latex--I didn't know there was a 7" poly foam core; making this a pricey bed @ $2.4K. I'd find a Pure Latex Bliss if I had that budget for a mattress. There's quite a few custom latex-mattress shops online as well. As an example, I had a really good experience with Arizona Premium Mattress Co (see: http://www.mattresses.net/eastern-king-ultra-plush-latex-set.html). Good luck on your new journey/mission. |
