Like most of you, I've spent alot of time reading the threads on this terrific forum and researching latex mattresses. In fact, I've become obsessed and find myself revisiting many of the online latex mattress companies on a daily basis. I'm still a few months away from making a decision, so until then I'll probably continue going crazy evaluating all the options. Thanks to everyone here who has shared their experiences and tried to help others sleep better at night. The reason for the post is that I'm confused about information I received from foambymail and hope someone can help explain it. I sent them an email to find out if they would cut a 6" latex core (firm) into two 3" layers for ease of handling. I received the following response: "The 6" firm latex core cut in half is the 3" medium toppers. When you make them thinner they loose [sic] the firmness. ... We can cut the toppers anyway you want for a small charge. Please note that the more latex toppers you add the softer it will feel regardless of firmness of the foam." Um.....I understand that the more layers added, the softer it will feel, but I am really confused as to why the firm core would become a medium if cut in half. The other online stores sell 3" layers in a variety of firmness levels, though I know that dunlop is offered in more firmness levels than talalay. What am I not understanding? I bought the 6 in firm core from FBM b/c I couldn't find a firm topper to accomplish the same thing. Maybe that's why toppers are only medium or soft? However, I do think Flobeds offers a firm layer to their customized beds that's thinner than a 6 in core, so I'm circling back in my thought process. Anyone else? |
