Best Source for 1" memory foam?
What would be the best density/brand for just a 1" topper? Thanks!! |
Re: Best Source for 1" memory foam?
If you want the full benefits of memory foam, you need to really sink into it, which means you'll need at least 2". 2-3" for stomach and back sleepers, 3-4" for side sleepers says conventional wisdom. Personally, I'm a side sleeper and 4" of MF doesn't provide enough support for me; I've found 2-3" ideal. The only MF that is sold in a 1" thickness, that I'm aware of, is Foamex's Venus. Since 1" of 8 lb. Venus is comparable to 2" of standard 5 lb. foam, 1" is supposed to provide all the support and comfort most people need. If you'd like to purchase Venus foam, I would hurry up and order a topper (Overstock.com doesn't sell the authentic Venus foam, FYI) since the company has recently stopped producing it. If your sole objective is to add a little softness to your comfort layer, may I suggest a 1" latex topper? Latex International's 19 ILD blended talalay feels very similar to memory foam, but is far more resilient and will, therefore, last much longer. Re: Best Source for 1" memory foam?
hi ZZZZzzsplease, thanks for your reply. I'm on the fence about memory foam, but i've tried several beds lately that have a combination of latex, pu foam and memory foam (about 1 inch each) as a topper, and i really liked it. I'm concerned with motion transfer (as evident from my many posts), thus shying away from full latex--though i've heard differing things about it--and thought it might be good to have several toppers together. Then again, i may not know what i'm talking about! I'd really like to LIKE the latex, because, as you say, it's durable and not toxic! |
Re: Best Source for 1" memory foam?
I'd get the 1" Sensus from overstock.com: http://tinyurl.com/lqkmnj Hmm. That hotlink does not seem to work. Copy and paste this: http://tinyurl.com/lqkmnj Since the largest sizes are the same price as the smallest at overstock, order the largest size then use the leftover for pillows or whatever ... For example, I buy the King and then cut it into halves and then I have 2 x twin toppers. I have a different take on it than zzzzzz.. I think sometimes 1 or 2 inches of memory foam is enough. It depends on what you have under it and how soft you need it, how heavy you are, how sensitive your body is to pressure points, etc. etc. etc. So 1" might be enough, and I think usually 2" is enough for most people, and usually 3" is too much. But some people sleep on Tempurpedic which is similar to Sensus and sleep on what? 4" or so of it and love it... So YMMV... In my opinion the more expensive Venus foam is not worth it. But again, others' mileage may vary. This message was modified Aug 14, 2009 by jimsocal

If it is real Sensus, that is an excellent product. If you would like to sleep on a marshmallow, don't hesitate to try Sensus. A nice high quality, long lasting memory foam. |
