The wife and I have an Eco Memory Foam Mattress because our  pillow top that was two years old began to sag and breakdown (we weigh 175/140 lbs).  The dealer was nice enough to exchange the mattress for us and we do appreciate their customer relations.

After a week we were hurting so badly we couldn't go out and couldn't figure out why though we both have osteoarthritis.  Finally we determined that it was the memory foam mattress that was causing the pain.  We called the representative who exchanged the mattress for us and he said to put a heated mattress cover/pad on the mattres and leave it on all day.  Well, it's off-season and we can't find a heated mattress pad anywhere so we had to order one with expidited shipping and hopefully, it will "expand the cells within the foam and make it comfortable.  Meanwhile we have two electric heating pads we are alternating placement on the bed-but it really doesn't help.

Has anyone used this technique to make their memory foam mattress "softer?"  If it doesn't improve the comfort, we taking the "thing" back and getting another pillow topper-type mattress.  We're praying that this will work for us, we both feel like we're crippled.  We do have an adjustable bed and elevated the head of the bed but no relief.  It's still almost like sleeping on a hard floor.

I suppose heat may soften the foam, but how deep and how hot and for how much.  It sounds like it's too firm, no contouring, no cradling.  That will slowly beat you up.  Given its firm support, you could put a topper on it to fix the cradle comfort, but that would be experimental and costly and better done on an innerspring that ventilates, imo.  I would return it for a better comfort fit.

Thanks for the reply!  We have decided to take the mattress back to the store-actually it's $60 delivery of another mattres and pick up the uncomfortable one.

I am going to look for an innerspring mattress for the adjustable bed, I've read that they are available on the internet and probably at the store that sold me the mattress.  If they don't have one, I'll get a new one with pillowtop like we had before.

I've replied in another thread about your problem.  Hold on just a bit and don't return it just yet.  Take some time to read and educate yourself on this website.  Read the sticky threads and learn how to make this bed just right for you.  The great thing is that the bed is too firm.  You have a lot of choices and can make it as soft and your heart desires.  It just costs some money and trial and error.  If you get another pillow top, you'll again be in the same position and spend tons of money again.  If you're getting an inner spring matterss, you should still get a very firm bed so that you can adjust the bed to your liking.  Basically, I'm saying to get a topper to fix your problem.
