Hello, I have been reading up on ideas for putting together a mattress and wanted to get some input from users out here. I am 230lbs 6' and sleep on my stomach, side and a little on my back. I tend to prefer a pretty firm mattress. Here is what I have put together for what I think might work for me: Option 1 6" LUX-HQ Base 2" 32 ILD Middle Talalay (foambymail) 2" 20 ILD Top Talalay (foambymail)
Option 2 4" LUX-HQ Base 3" 32 ILD Middle Talalay (foambymail) 3" 20 ILD Top Talalay (foambymail)
Option 3 4" LUX-HQ Base 6" 33-38 ILD Talalay Mattress (foambymail)
Any input on which option might work best for me would be great. Are there any other places I should look for the Talalay Latex besides FBM in this price range?

Temple, I can only give you suggestions based on my research and what ive been told by companies like Flobeds and SleepEZ... If you are going to spend a nice "chunk of change", why not pay a few extra dollars and get an all latex mattress that will last you 20+ years... Any mattress with Lux bases or Polyfoam of any sort placed anywhere in your mattress has an average life expectancy of 4-10 years...depending on density and manufacturer. Why not simply purchase an all latex mattress? Im not completely familiar with FBM, so I cant comment on the product, or what they have available; But companies such as Flobeds and Sleepez offer layered latex mattresses for customization and adjustability. Now latex may not be for everyone, but it seems as tho this whole forum is mostly consumed by latex. There are reasons for that. 1. Adjustabliliy on each individual side of your mattress 2. Natural latex does not off-gas 3. Talalay processed latex is considered an open-celled product, therefore is considered a mostly breathable bed...sleeps cool in the summer, sleeps warm in the winter, etc. 4. Dust-mite and mildew resistant! 5. Hypo-allergenic 6. Does not break down as fast as poly-foams and visco-elastic foams such as Tempurpedics. 7. Most places carry a very fair 20+ year warranty on the latex itself. The reason for this is the simple fact that latex simply lasts a long time. Those are a few good reasons to have an all-latex mattress, as opposed to a latex matt with poly foams. Again, Im no expert..there are plenty of people in this forum that give sound advice..so i suggest have an open mind, and do your research. Like i said...Latex may not be for everyone, but atleast you have a mattress that you can adjust once you have it in your home..so your not stuck with one feel. With all that said..My hubby weighs a bit less than you...and he is going with a 3" medium(30-32ILD) over a 3" firm(38-40ILD) over a 3" X-firm(44ILD) in the Talalay Blended latex. We were told that a 20-22ILD would be fine for me at 130lbs, but may break down much faster for him at 220lbs. Shawn explained that during the Talalay process, Air is whipped in to the liquid latex, stretching the cell-structure, thus weakening it. He explained that I will contour to a 20ILD layer the same way my hubby will on a 30ILD, due to the weight difference.
Again, Im sure you will get plenty of great advice. But I dont think you will go wrong no matter where you buy one of these adjustable latex matts. I wish the best to you! Happy mattress hunting!!
