Chatham and Wells Deirdre mattress - want to ditch box spring
We are having a platform bed built and the designer wants us to ditch our box spring. We have had our Chatham and Wells Deirdre pillow-top coil mattress for about 8 years and it is amazingly comfortable. The box spring has real springs, and I suspect it is integral to the feel of the bed, but I thought I would ask. Does anyone have any experience with Chatham and Wells (and maybe even the Deirdre?) that can comment? BTW, in reading around, it seems that people really turned on C&W about 5 years ago and that the company is no longer independent. That is too bad. I imagine they started making compromises to compete and lost their unique branding. In any case, +1 from me WRT this particular C&W bed. It has lasted, and it is super comfortable! So, if I ditch the box spring, what type of platform should the mattress rest on, and is there any type of platform beyond wood slats that would have any "give" to replace the function of the box spring?
