cover for latex foam
what would be right way to cover a 6" + 3" latex foam bought online. FBM offers a zipper cover, but I am not sure if it is good enough to protect it by being damaged. I am not sure where can we get some sturdy covers that can protect it from sides. I am not sure if quilted cover offered by sleeplikebear.com is effective, but it is kinda pricey. Dee |
Re: cover for latex foam
Are you referring to the gray and white, cotton/polyester zipped covering? Because that is very sturdy material and I can't think of anything that would be better to protect from normal wear and tear. |
Re: cover for latex foam
Basically you just want to protect it from the sun and from body oils so just about any cover will do. I have used latex for years without any cover, just sheets on top and they're fine. I realize that without a cover it will last less time but since I tend to tweak my DIY combination of foams regularly, putting them inside a cover would just make my regular changing of the configuration of layers too difficult. |
Re: cover for latex foam
I'm in the camp who concedes that the less protection you have between your latex & your body, the shorter it will last, but does so anyway. Guess that's the price I'm willing to pay for the more direct feel, more immediate conformation all from the latex itself, none from quilting. I'm sure there are also super thin covers that are simultaneously soft yet still waterproof, but I just use what is effectively a high thread count wrap around bamboo sheet.. Not recommended if you're looking for protection first. Don't think it's best in that regard.
The FBM cover looks pretty good, custom sized, & has a heavy duty looking zipper too (just wish it ran along at least three sides though). Really good for the price, when you start shopping around for them. The nicest? I know Bed bath & beyond has a nice thin one, certified 100% organic cotton, 5 micron weave etc for two to three hundred dollars, & for that much you can get one of the really thick quilted style cases from SLAB, like it sounds like you want (ie "sturdy"), if it doesn't rob the feel of your latex too much.. I have a thick nicely embroidered wool & cotton case like those, & I find that it does. Have temporarily reassigned that one to another mattress: memory foam duty.
