FYI

Ordered a fleecy wool topper from Sheepish Dreams. Their website claims 100% cotton backing and washable. We waited to use it until our mattress arrived (longer than Sheepish Dreams returns time frame). To our disappointment, the tag says the backing is 100% polyester.

Clear cut case of deceptive advertising. If you paid by credit card, you have every right to file a dispute, if they won't take it back.

Agree with Gary. They should take it back.

Polyester will last longer and won't shrink.  It isn't against your body, shouldn't be a problem.

Doesn't matter. They misrepresented the product. You believed them in good faith. it is entirely reasonable that you might not have immediately noticed.

I would not volunteer the info that it had been slept on, but would be very surprised if they gave you a hard time considering it is them who screwed up. If they do, politely inform them that you will be posting the story on a number of web forums.
