I just wanted to get some opinions on a few DIY foam mattress ideas I came up with for my King size bed. I’m going to use FBM unless someone can point me in the direction of a better online foam supplier.  Here are a few details about myself that should aid in the judging of my ideas.

6’4”

230 lbs

Mainly a side sleeper but I will dabble in some back/stomach sleeping as well.

I prefer a more firm bed but nothing crazy

Idea 1

Bottom – 3.5” LUX-HQ Foam

·         2” solid piece

·         1.5” egg crate

Middle – 3.5” HD36-HQ Foam

·         2” solid piece

·         1.5” egg crate

Top – 3” 32 ILD Talalay Latex Foam

Unknown Mattress Pad

9” Terrycloth Cover

Idea 2

Same as above but change out top layer for:

3” 5lb ViscoMax Memory Foam

Idea 3/4

Bottom – 4” LUX-HQ Foam

Middle – 3” HD36-HQ Foam

Top – 3” 32 ILD Talalay Latex Foam or 3” 5lb ViscoMax Memory Foam

Unknown Mattress Pad

9” Terrycloth Cover

I think it’s easy to see that my main questions are:

What’s the difference between the Latex Talalay vs ViscoMax Memory Foam?

Does using the eggcrates on top of solid pieces make any difference? Air Flow? Comfort?

Can I put Latex on top of standard the HD36-HQ and the LUX-HQ?

Thanks in advance for your help.
