looking to purchase new med firm/firm queen with 6" Dunlop base layer and 2"-3" Talalay topper. What are pros/cons for purchasing mattress with layes fixed (w/ adhesive) vs unfixed? |
How could anyone that has read at least a few topics on this forum NOT grasp the concept of re-configuration? |
After my experience I would NOT recommend the "fixed" latex layers. I purchased a "fixed" latex mattress with 6 inch core and 2 inch talalay topper in "medium" and found it was not firm enough....I bottomed out on it. (Weight is 250) I exchanged it for a "firm" fixed mattress of the same thickness and now found it to be TOO FIRM! I ended up keeping this and adding another 3 inch "medium" topper. (24-28 ILD) for a total of 11 inches of latex. It's great now. Bottom line, if you can swap out layers and experiment with what works, you are better off. Also, if you are a big person, 8 inches of latex may not be enough. Most of us recommend 9-12 inches at a minimum. Just my opinion. |
It's all very much personal preference. Dunlop base plus Talalay top is one way to go, all Talalay is another, Talalay on top of HR or Mgrade foam is another... Dunlop is just TOO firm for many people, like myself. I just plain don't like it. Fact is, even Talalay by itself with no springs feels too weird, to me and some others. While others love it. Unfortunately you just have to try some things and if you read a lot here you might get an idea of where you may fall in the spectrum. Best would be if you could find some latex foam in your area to lay on, to see how it feels. Be aware though that many of the Big S co's are using synthetic latex which is a whole other thing, not really recommended. |
