Does anyone have an opinion on base core for a DIY mattress between FBM LUX or HD36 HQ? I am trying to decide between 5" base HD36 HQ or 3" HD36 HQ and 2" LUX. Have requested twice for samples from FBY but haven't received any. I don't know the firmnest of the 2. Side sleeper around 170lbs. On top of base core, 3" latex 32 ILD and 2" solf latex. Thanks |
I am using the FBM LUX-R 5" in one of my setups. It's very firm. The LUX-HQ is denser, will last longer, is I think as firm as it gets. Can't speak to your layering concepts because this is all new to me. ("R" just means regular, "HQ' high quality). LUX firmer than HD36. I would think start with the firmest base, then layer up to a talalay topper. --Francis p.s. if I'm wrong please any veterens feel free to correct me. We all need to stay informed in order to make decent choices for our sleep! |
If you don't mind spending the extra money the HQ is just better quality. Only downside I can see to HQ is its will be heavier to move around. I ordered samples form fbm and a week later I had them. They are 2" x 2" samples and you can not tell much by them. I order the HD36 after reading how firm the Lux was. I weight 5'9" and weight 155 pounds. The HD36 is still pretty firm. i have 3 inches of latex foam on top. At my weight the Lux def would of been too firm. After some time I have notice the HD36 is getting softer in spots, but has not lost support. That why I recomend the HQ. I don't think the regular will last to long but this was only a temporary solution. Most of the awful smell is gone but I can still easily smell the foam. I do not mind it but if you have a sensitive sense of smell then it might offend you. |
I used 3" of LUX-HQ and then 3" of HD36-HQ on top of that. With MF and latex toppers on top (zoned, see my other postings). |
