First time purchasing a mattress (leaning towards memory foam)

I've done a little research, but still very new to the "art" of buying a decent bed. Almost bought one of s-brand ones, but canceled it after doing some research. The only hesitation I have about memory foam is that I am usually pretty sensitive to hot temperatures in a mattress, and also I am about 110 to 120 lbs, which I also read may give me some issues with high density foam. Any recommendations from people about where I should even begin with my search? Brands and models of what I should purchase would be extra helpful. Thanks |

One question I have - what should the memory foam mattress lie on? Currently, I ahve an old boxspring and metal frame w/ wheels for my current innerspring mattress. Do I need to buy a new bed or have a boxpsring? |

Costco/Sleep Science, 10 inch memory foam (was called "the emma") when i bought it, might not be named now...call sleep science 800 723 0316 And ask them if this is the same one...For almost ONE THIRD the price of a Tempurpedic, this was a real nice mattress, i returned it but not because I didnt like it , long story as to why...it did NOT sleep hot at all! 2. Tempurpedic "Rhapsody" - too firm 3. Tempurpdedic - "Bellafina" , for 6 weeks nothing but low back pain, then the last two nights, wonderful and does not sleep hot 4. the latex from sleep science at costco, not available now, much cheaper than flobeds, etc...also wonderful, but sleeps a bit warm...i am now going back and forth and will decide on these last 2 Get the sleep science 10 inch memory foam, if you dont like it, they will pick it up for free and return all your money - as to the foundation, with costco it wont matter, but with temp you could void warranty...if getting anything from costco DONT pay for the foundation, try mattress first... | Randy, why don't you go back to the 10" Costco Emma? It sounds like that was your favorite? Probably not worth the money for the TP if you liked the Emma about the same. Costco may want to shoot you, but in the end I think they want you to be satisfied with the product. |

So, what should I use for foundation? Would any basically work or is boxspring recommended? And does 12" vs. 10" memory foam make a difference? Right now I'm looking at the Night Therapy 12" from sam's club. |

My suggesting is that you read the threads here on memory foam - use the search function. Don't buy any memory foam that you cannot return after trying it. Good luck! p.s. Please post back here and let us know how you like it after you've had it a few months. |

I just bought a 3" piece of memory foam (4.1 lb density). After 2 months it's already starting to have soft spots. In colder weather there has also been a significant delay in it going back to form. In other words, if you have to roll over then you're screwed. Luckily it has a 90 day warranty. My suggestion is to avoid memory foam. I've done some research and decided to buy a 3" piece of talay latex from sleeplikeabear.com. |

Let us know what you think of it please. IMHO memory foam sucks. I had a good memory foam bed (allegedly) Sealy Truform, it was miserable after the first few months. I believe it broke down, softened too much. Then I tried a cheap memory foam topper over a regular spring mattress, I sweated every night. Now I am sleeping on latex, and over a polyester blanket and I don't sweat at all, not warm at all either. I actually have to use blankets now. This message was modified Jan 18, 2010 by Leo3
