I will be calling Flobeds soon and discussing my options, but thought I'd find out if anyone who has one is a stomach sleeper? I prefer a soft bed, but need some firmness because I sleep mainly on my stomach, and occasionally on my side. When I "made" my bed on the Flobeds site, it recommended soft over soft. Is this really enough firmness for stomach sleeping? I'm also curious about the zoned mattresses and will also explore that option. I know it's going to be a matter of my preference, just wanted to hear about some other's experiences out there. Thanks! |
I have a Cal King natural latex mattress from FloBeds. I slept on it for about six months now. I like it very much. I'm 6 foot two and weigh 200 pounds.I am almost exclusively a side sleeper. One side of my bed is F/F/XF and the other side is, F/XF/XF. This sleeps quite well for me. I think most people error on the side of buying too soft. FloBeds calculator I have found to be less than perfect. It will get you started in the right direction but in the end you will need to make your own adjustments. This is why FloBeds are so good they have the best exchange policy on the Internet. You did not say in your post what you weigh, how tall you are, and whether you are male or female. Most females, who don't have any back issues, who are of modest size can usually get by on a softer configuration. But I would definitely recommend getting the bottom most layer as a firm or possibly even extra firm ILD. The next two layers could possibly be medium. But don't be surprised if you wind up with medium on the top, firm in the middle, and extra firm on the bottom(or possibly firm on the bottom) , since you are a stomach sleeper. this is just my guess without more information it would be very tough to advise you. Call FloBeds and talk to Dave Turner,(he is very easy to talk to and quite helpful) he uses a VZone latex mattress and likes it very much. I have no experience with it but some on this site do have it and really like it. The best thing about it is changing layers is infinitely more simplified and easier with a VZone, because you're only dealing with moving some layers around on the very top of the mattress. These latex cores can become quite awkward and heavy to move around. Good luck with your search. Post back as there are many on this forum who will be glad to help you

Thanks for the reply...some more info on me: I am a 5'6", 135-pound female. DH is 6'4" and about 230. We are currently sleeping on a Serta Perfect Sleeper that is 10 years old and the springs are shot (verified through my "mattress surgery" yesterday), so the mattress is sagging in the middle considerably. I have back pain when sleeping on the sagging mattress, but we did a temporary fix last night by building up the box spring with blankets folded up and placed vertically along the middle of the box springs. Clearly not ideal, but I am desperate for better sleep, and this morning I did not wake up with a back pain. |
I would think your husband's side would need to be much firmer than yours. Otherwise, the firmness calculator is not perfect but it's a good starting point. I actually think the best idea is to call Flobeds and discuss your situation and concerns with them. They have more experience than the rest of us on this forum put together. It's all exchangeable/returnable for 90 days, so take a stab at it, if it isn't right, exchange a layer until you get it right. |
I agree with Kimberly. Your husband will definitely need a much firmer side then you will. He is a large man and can probably benefit from his side being all extra firm. With all FloBeds the top most layer ( the fourth layer in the bed) is a convoluted single piece of what really boils down to about 1 inch of very soft Talalay. They call it 2 inches but since it is convoluted it becomes a 1 inch pretty quickly by laying on it. Kimberly's advice about calling FloBeds is your best bet. |
