My wife and I are about ready to order a latex mattress from Flobeds, but are hesitating spending the $$ on their Euro Slat foundation.  Two questions: 1) Is the Euro Slat foundation really worth the price; and  2) do we really need a foundation at all?  Thanks!!

I love my pine slat foundation since it give my latex mattress a firm base and the 10" legs I added to it allows me to store prior season clothes under the bed. I added headboard brackets and attached a Wesley Allen Headboard.  I added a pull over bed skirt to cover what I had under the bed.  It is important to have a firm base for the latex mattress in whatever you choose.  Maybe the Euro Slat is better but I can't give you an opinion since I haven't tried it.  Maybe someone else on this list who has tried it can let you know if it is worth the price since it might be because the concept sounds great.  I was just buying not only the new latex bed but a new bedroom set since my former bedroom set was a platform bed with drawers made of solid oak that had fallen apart due to movers several years earlier doing a poor job with the bookshelf headboard and drawers underneath when putting it back together. My mattress was Sealy Posturpedic Mattress was 15 years old and needed to be replaced.  Hence, I didn't want to spend the extra money to find out if I would like the Euro Slat foundation better due to having other expenses to think about.  I do wonder though if the concept would work since it would be wonderful to adjust firmness levels two ways, with the latex

I used to think about getting a Euro Slat Foundation ... and believe it might be great.

But if you have an 8 or 10" mattress ... it might not provide you a lot of extra benefit. Especially if the mattress has been fitted for your weight.

The thinner the mattress, the more a difference Euro Slats will make. Although, it will help regulate heat better over a plywood board.

At a local foam maker in Toronto, they just recommend a plywood board. The company is called www.foamite.com

Something else to consider about the Euro Slats is that Ikea does sell ones that are similar to the ones found on Flobeds. Although, Flobeds does include a box. With Ikea, you will need to buy a frame to put the slats on top of ...
