Flobeds Vzone Review

Got my queen Vzone mattress a couple weeks ago along with the pine base.  I have had lower back and shoulder pain for about two years from various injuries (from motocross) and I am happy to say after a couple of configuration changes, my pain is virtually gone.  The first week was a little bit of a struggle to get the vzone and core setup correct and it actually caused me more pain, but this week (my 2nd week of owning the mattress) along with the newest configuration is working really well.  I am 5' 10" 165 lb male and currently running super firm over super firm with a soft/xfirm/firm vzone with medium pieces for my legs (knees/legs have a lot of pain).  I highly recommend the pine base if you ever get a thick latex mattress like this.  I used a one month old Simmons boxspring and the mattress was much too hot, and lumpy.  The pine base made the bed much cooler and flatter.  It's a grip of money, but it was money well spent.

DTM Teknick, Thank you for the review on the FloBeds Vzone.  The Vzone was not offered to me when I bought my bed. The concept sounds great as long as you spend the time getting the set-up right. I just have the Super Firm at my bottom of both sides and the Xfirm latex cores with a 1" topper over this. I also have the pine base which I highly recommend. I also have the higher legs enabling me to store stuff under my bed in containters which I am happy about. The Super Firm base cores at the bottom I feel is the right way to go giving the mattress excellent support.

What type of pillow are you sleeping on?  I am sleeping on a standard Talalay Latex pillow that I love so much but I bought 6 pillows from Overstock to get 2 that are the perfect height for me.  The Queen Size Talalay Latex pillows from FloBed were so nice but too high for someone petite like me so I use them as sham fillers.

I am sleeping on a Oxygen latex pillow.  It is the softest/lowest one they offer since I generally sleep on my back.  When I sleep on my side I use a Sleep Innovations visco elastic memory foam cervical pillow.

DTMTeknik,

I sleep on my side but my mother when she was alive slept on her back and she felt the flatter the pillow the better it was for her.  I just needed a low pillow to give me cushion but to support my neck and head and cradle my shoulder.  FloBeds actually cut a pillow for me when I thought I needed one flatter but that ended up not being high enough for me.

I am so glad that you found the right set-up for yourself that brings you a good night's sleep.  We all appreciate you sharing. I try to remain a member for all the help everyone gave me when I was a newbie.

Can 1 person assemble the foundation and then the latex bed by himself (a guy)?

How do you put the foundation together? Is it a complex procedure?

Why was putting the v zone layer and core layers a pain? I mean is it hard physically or you have to figur eout the correct v zone and that makes it hard?

Please tell how you feel about the mattress again to see if anything has changed.

Thanks.

RichardP, if I did not have that car accident, despite being a small petite female (but I have always been very strong), I could have put the bed together myself. I think what is difficult about putting a V-Zone together (I only have layers of latex from FloBeds.. their VZone did not come out yet when I bought my bed) is there is more choices to configure so patience is a must to get the best set-up.

RichardP,

The FloBed's top layer was so soft and cushiony and I loved it but due to being so petite, I did not sink in enough to feel the firmness underneath that I need to feel. I love very firm beds and all my beds were without any toppers or pillow tops before buying a FloBed latex kit.

Dave sent me several other toppers to try out but the Dunlap Topper was too firm for me since I had been sleeping on the carpetted floor over a 1" latex topper from overstock and I realized I truly loved having a little bit of cushion.  The 1.5" Talalay latex topper without the convolutions was also too soft. My overstock latex topper was too small and falling apart. Hence, I thought for the cheap price the Queen size was selling for, I would just buy it and tell Dave thank you for trying your best.  The bigger and heaveier a person is, I feel the thicker the cushion needs to be since you will sink in if it is soft.  There is no push back on my topper that I know of. I just love my set up for my needs.  But don't forget I am only 4'10.5" tall and around 100 lbs. Sometimes I am a few pounds more and sometimes a few pounds less.

I tried staying with 100% natural Talalay Latex but then had to cave in and order two Super Firm latex layers which I found seemed slightly sturdier and did not bother my allergies which surprised me.  I always air out any latex layer on my banister for a night to be safe if it has the plastic bag smell on it since I have very bad allergies to plastic outgassing.

The only latex layer I had problems with was the 100% natural latex topper that smelled so bad that was not convoluted that Dave found for me.  The convoluted one had just about no smell and did not bother my allergies.

I think the Talalay latex processing just cleans the latex so well and I did not smell or have any problems with any outgassing from the blended Talalay Latex Super Firm layers.

I had bought Dave's pine slat frame with the tallest plastic legs so I could have a normal height bed to go with my 6 foot tall headboard and to have room to store stuff under the bed. The pine smell bothered me for the first few days but then the smell thank goodness went away. I needed a frame since my platform bed had fallen apart several months earlier.

By the way, friends who tried out my bed loved the convoluted topper and could not believe I wanted to go firmer but I feel the firmness of my bed is perfect for me with the little bit of cushion on top.
