High profile foundation
Anyone have suggestions for a high profile foundation? My husband wants a higher bed, and we just purchased the Costco 10" latex mattress, so it sits pretty low. We are looking at DIYing it, but I'd like to know if there are easier options. I googled it, but only low profile foundations were coming up. The one we have is the 8" that came with the mattress and we are looking for considerably higher. It's funny that now we can't find higher beds...they are all made lower to accomodate the high loft plush mattresses. Even most sheets are made for the thicker mattresses now...I purchased a set of king sheets from Costco and they fit the 10" mattress like a swim suit that has been stretched out and lost its elasticity. |
Re: High profile foundation
I noticed the same thing whileshopping for a new bed - they are all low to the ground. We are tall people and wanted a tall bed. We ended going with a tall Ikea storage bed with a tall storage foundation on top of that, bringing the height including our 10" Sleepez mattress to about 36". There's a pic in my thread, but I don't think that would be any help to you since they don't come in King. We also had a very small budget left for the actual bed, since we'd blown the wad on the mattress - hense the Ikea bed. It'll get beat to crap and look terrible within 5 years, most likely, but maybe we'll be able to afford to upgrade to real wood by then. OK, I'm no help... but you do have my sympathy and I wish you luck on 'The Quest for the Tall Bed'. Robin |

I just want to note that although storage areas under mattresses gives a lot of great storage space, there is a down side. If someone has allergies or asthma, this is a no-no for sure. It gives dust mites and mold more places to live and hide and so can really aggravate allergies and asthma. If one does have allergies and/or asthma, the best thing is to buy an dust-mite-proof cover that zips all around the box springs and mattress and pillow so that dust mites cannot live in them. These are widely available in stores and on the net. I think even Bed&Bath&Beyond has them. I like nationalallergysupply.com. As to the sheet issue, yes, The sheets I bought recently fit like a loose swimsuit. Doesn't bother me really but it is a bit annoying. |
