As my search for the perfect bed continues it just occurred to me - I think what I’m seeking is something that feels ljust ike my old Sears-O-Pedic, which I inherited in the early 90s and finally had to throw out a couple years ago. It was the BEST MATTRESS EVER. Firm, supportive, flat, smooth surface but with just enough give for shoulders, elbows, hips. I don’t know how old that sucker was – maybe dating from the 60s or 70s. It had a shiny glamorous damask cover, aqua blue in color, sleek and smooth, with no annoying buttons or lumpiness. When I got it in the early 90s it had been in someone’s guest room for many years, not used much. Eventually the crater on one side got too deep – I was fighting all night to keep from sliding down into the hole. Sure wish I had performed an autopsy before throwing it away – so I could see how it was made and look for something similar. Apparently, Sears still makes a Sears-O-Pedic, but is it the same mattress? I imagine the quality is not as good. I wish I hadn’t thrown away the box spring because there again the quality just was so much better than the junky wood boxes with fabric stapled over it that they sell today. |
