which do you prefer? tempurpedic - like sleeping on sand? or latex? Thanks |
Why are you reposting topics that have already been discussed in numerous threads? |
new people come through here all the time. they don't necessarily know what is on older threads. no harm asking it again. there may be others who are interested |
I like the feel of both. I went with latex because 1) I was concerned about all the off-gassing of memory foam products, including tempurpedic 2) my research led me to believe that a latex bed would have a longer lifespan than a tempurpedic bed and 3) I prefer the supportive and resiliant feel of latex to the sleeping in sand feel of memory foam (although I liked the Rhapsody bed just fine) and finally, 4) there are questions about memory foam "sleeping hot" and this seems to be less of an issue for most people with latex. My daughter had brief problems sleeping hot in her latex bed, this turned out to be solved by just switching out the bedding to a lighter weight comforter. |
I actually like to use some of both, but mainly latex. Memory foam molds to your body more, so probably better for pressue relief. Memory foam is usually fairly low ILD, so often it lack support (especially the cheaper made ones). TP is probably the best quality, although I have never spent a night on a TP mattress. It is hard to find quality 1" pieces of memory foam. Some memory foams sleep hotter than latex. Latex has a more springy feel, and memory foam a more flat (yeah, kind of like sand) feel. Right now I am using 1" of 5lb. Sensus memory foam along with 4" of latex (from 19 to 32 ILD) on top of Sealy springs. Usually I have 1" or 2" of latex above the Sensus. I also have a wool topper above them. This combination is working pretty well for me.

Ditto what Kimberly said. I just built a mattress using latex after a lot of research on this site and others, for the reasons Kimberly cites. Point #3 is the only one I wasn't sure about because I'd lain on but never actually slept on either MF or latex, but there are many fans of both types and I knew either one would be better than most of the conventional mattresses available. |
