Latex Topper On Top of Memory Foam Bed???

I recently purchased a Simmons Comfor-pedic Loft Plush bed.  While the bed felt fine in the store, after sleeping on it for about an hour, it feels like I have sunk down to the foundation.  I also seem to get much hotter in this bed than I did on my old bed (innerspring with memory foam topper).  I do not sleep well on the bed, but I was hoping to not be out the $1,500 I spent on it. I was wondering if anyone had tried putting a latex foam topper on top of a memory foam better, to increase air circulation and prevent sinking?  Any opinions would be appreciated.

There are several issues with this mattress, depending on the model you have, that may be a little difficult to "fix". It uses less dense memory foam that the equivalent NXG which would encourage "more sinking" and it also uses a 1.8 density 24 ILD support layer which is quite soft for a support layer and would also encourage sinking into a mattress. It may be OK if you are very light but I would think that normal and above height/weight would need firmer support.

It may well be worth trying an inch or so of firmer latex over top of the memory foam. It would help cool things down and it may also help with how deep you sink as it would help isolate the memory foam from your body heat and it wouldn't "melt" as easily. It still may gradually sink in deeper over the course of the night though as heat more slowly reached it.

I personally prefer the feel of latex over memory foam to memory foam by itself. You could test this layering by laying down on an NXG 575 which is the top of the line NXG mattress and uses latex over the memory foam over latex. The NXG memory foam is also denser than the comforpedic so it may not be a "perfect" comparison to what it would feel like on your mattress but it would cerainly give you an idea.

A wool topper can reduce sinking in a bit and add some cooling affect due to its moisture absorption capabilities.   I have a 1.5" one that I purchased at walmart.com.  It helps if it can be pulled fairly tight with elastic corner straps.  I think they have a decent return policy.

A firmer piece of latex on top might help  a little as well.   Sleeplikeabear has a 30 day return policy, but you will be out shipping both ways and small handling fee.

Don't expect miracles though, because if the foam below does not provide enough support, it is hard to do much about it.

I assume you cannot return this?
